We’ve noticed everyone has taken a liking to talking about the race. So we’re giving you a place to do that, and just that.

Feel free to use this area to discuss anything and everything about the Little 500 — Qualifications, Spring Series, the race itself.

Please, no character attacks. Trash-talking is great, but slandering people isn’t. Let’s keep it clean. Or your post will be deleted.

    • XA isn’t Greek, but are they the only house on NoJo training? No Beta, Ep, Phi Delt, Phi Psi, or DX? Disappointing to say the least

      • Ep will muster up a decent team after their training trip if they can time their training correctly. 8-12th.

Phi Psi is a one man show, it won’t matter how fast LaValle is because he doesn’t have a supporting cast as of now. 10th.

Phi Delt is the only Greek team putting in real hours. Will be the fastest team they’ve had since the Lee era, but will get smoked by BKB and JB like everyone else. Top 5 finish.

Beta and Sig Chi= non-existent, 15th or worse. The only thing saving these two teams are that there are less teams in the field than there have ever been, easily would be in the 20-30 range back in 2015.

SAE sank faster than the Titanic, with the captain being the first person to jump ship (thought this was a team founded by swimmers). They may never be contenders again.

PSA: A team isn’t Greek unless they’re on IFC. FITFO.

      • I agree with your take on Ep although they would be much worse overall in a normal year.

JB and BKB are in their own tier at the top with GG and Chi Alpha a notch below. I can’t support Phi Delt as the next best team when they have zero riders who can hang when Buck, Rob, Tisdale, and Jazz are out there.

Phi Psi lacks depth but just about every other team lacks talent. Andrew can handle a 40 mile ride with a weak field.

Beta and Sae didnt have teams last year, and I haven’t heard anything about Sigma Chi.

I would add that Fiji deserves some love. Nick Olsen is one of the best Greek riders in the field after Andrew LaValle.

  1. where y’all getting everyone’s training plans on how much they’re riding? Would love to know! The spring is gonna be a wake up call because many teams are taking a different approach this year. Also just because XA participates in things doesn’t make them a top contender. At the end of the day they’re still not a contender. Remember you can be good on the road but trash on the track

    • Watch strava my friend, it’s beyond apparent that all the teams above are either training and putting in the effort or there not. XA went like 9,10,11 in ITT’s. While ITT’s aren’t everything it shows potential for a fast team. Kinda sounds like you’re a salty phi delt who thinks they’re putting in work when you’re not. What different approach are we missing? No miles in the fall and then interval sessions everyday come winter? Keep telling yourself that so you can think you’re good on the track but just a trash roadie.

      • How can we keep 5 year olds off 33to1? I don’t think you have the slightest clue of this year’s team dynamics, although probably smarter than the XA hater. The comment you’re responding to was 100% written by a geed. You say you checked Strava, and then said phi delt isn’t riding..?

Going after people’s “road skills” is a geed punchline, and it doesn’t even make sense here because XA doesn’t have road race experience.

      • Bro, everyone knows that you don’t need to actually ride and should just do body building style lifts to “look like a little 5 rider” to be fast

  2. Such an easy claim to make when all they have to do is produce a lead lap finish 😂
Wait if they finish lead lap then they’re better than Rob Lee and Romo?
Jeff, stop it. Your team is the greek Forest.

  3. That 9,10,11 finish doesn’t mean anything when not every team was riding. Come spring ITTs and everyone’s actually on the track, we’ll have a true sense of who can do what

  4. 1: Jet Blach
JB narrowly squeaks in as the best team in the field right now. With Rob K & Gavin Goode as their 1-2 and a 3-4 deeper than any of team on the list, it’s not hard to imagine them at the top of the podium next year.

    2: BKB
Arguably the most star studded program in the field right now. Strobel is easily the best rider in the field and after watching him curb stop worlds all fall, it’s safe to say Brown isn’t far behind him. Couple this with Knapp in the pit, and you have a scary team. The only question I have is whether or not BKB can muster a 3-4 that can hold against JB.

    3: Cutters
Gonna get a lot of flack for this, but Cutters is the 3rd strongest team in the field right now. Talent wise I’d say they’re barely a top 5 team, but the program has the history and the structure to turn mid-grade talent into high-octane winners. If Cutters can find a sprinter, Torin’s engine will have them at lap 199.

    XA:
Strength wise I think that ChI Alpha and their #WattsForJesus are right up there to hang with any team on this list so far. My question is, will the new kids on the block have the race experience and track awareness to not get used?

    5: FIJI
It might be easy to see Fiji on here and think “wow they’ll put anyone but Grey (gray?) Goat on this list” and you’d in fact be right! That being said FIJI has a real hitter in Nick Olsen and one on the most season racers in Cooper. The program looks solid and Strava has the numbers to back them up.

    Honorable Mention(s):

    Phi delt:
Many years ago it was said in this very message board that Phi Delt is a team that doesn’t train until spring, then always shows up on race day… well they’re training before spring this year. Phi Delt has a group of dedicated and hard working guys, and it would be stupid to write them off so quickly.

    GG:

I pride myself in knowing as little about GG as possible. I’m sure they will be pretty okay at L5.

      • Nick’s lost everyone on the race team.

Phi Psi is a top 5 team. Andrew is a tank and the lack of help is really exaggerated. There’s no clear #2 yet but they have some B/B- riders.

        CSF? Nah.

BKB, JB, GG, XA, PhiPsi, and Cutters will be there in the end. Fiji is possible and Ep is remote.

    • 1. – BKB, With Buck and Brown at the helm, this team has experience, depth and talent. Buck and Brown are hands down one of the best sprinters in the field, with Brown crushing worlds this summer.

      2. – JB, Krahulik, Clements, and Goode round out a deep 3 with JetBlach. The team has depth and speed in Rob and Clements. Honestly, the race will probably come down to JB and BKB.

      3. – XA, Tough to deny XA when they have 3 riders in the top 15 at ITTs. We will see how Briggs and his team stand up in the spring, but as of now they deserve a top 3 projection.

      4. – Phi Psi, Lavalle is hands down one of the strongest riders in the field , and even though he may be a one man show he still has an engine to carry that team. If he can get a supporting cast they could be a strong team come spring.

      5. – Phi Delt, maybe they can finally get a team back into the top 5, but this team has been riding. They have 2 guys in the top 20 of ITTs, if they can show up in the spring, they have a chance.

      • Torin on Cutters has an engine just as strong as Lavalle, and is part of a program that knows how to execute. Albert lost on lap 199 because he didn’t have the legs after carrying his team all race. What makes you think Andrew will be any different? Especially with a weaker supporting cast.

  5. You all know nothing about the current landscape. For sure BKB and Jetblach are top GDI teams, but do not underestimate the power of the greeks. Phi Delt and Fiji will for sure be the best of the rest. Phi Psi will also be there. Everyone keeps sleeping on SigEp but they clearly know what they are doing given past performances. They have the coaching and man power to be on top.

GG and Cutters will also be up there. Who even knows if there will be a race in 2021.

    • Coaching doesn’t mean everything. It’s been hard to keep tabs, but the guys on those two teams (and jazz Briggs + Andrew la Valle) are literally in a different league than everyone else right now. I say that after riding alongside them for the past year. They’re doing things on the bicycle that dudes on the other teams only dream about doing. Grey goat has to do a lot for me to consider them at that level but they aren’t out of the fight. Alternatively, these Greek teams can’t really do anything to change my mind. Hardly any miles over the past month tells me the same old story. On top of that, none of them have even remotely close to a dark horse sprinter if they can hold onto the final lap. Would love to be surprised though

      • They don’t call the 46X18 the great equalizer for nothing. The gearing alone along with the propensity for crashes and smart drafting makes everything seem a lot harder for these top teams on race day. With 2 top tier teams and a handful of top riders elsewhere, it will likely come down to another field sprint.

    • You sound like a Greek trying to find reasoning to not ride on the road and wait till track time in the spring to ride your bike. Banking on the idea that people are just good on the track and that road fitness doesn’t translate is lazy and an easy way out. Never put doubt on anyone. The second you count someone out you’ve lost

  6. So what’s up with most frat riders refusing to wave back? Is there some secret protest I’m missing or is it just a bunch of elitist pricks? Genuinely curious as to why so many people are incapable of showing kindness to others

      • Ahaha why so angry? Something strike home? It’s just disrespectful. This is all a giant community. We all love doing the same thing. No need to give someone the cold shoulder just cause they aren’t on your team. Takes a second to lift your hand off the bars

      • Hey dude why don’t you keep both hands on your bars so you can train better? Lol dude get your panties out of a bunch. We are enemies once the flag drops. I will NEVER wave to you- I HATE YOU.

  7. fine, i’ll say it if nobody else will… Phi Delts and Sig Ep can stop thinking they’re fast enough to be rude on the road and start waving back… reality is Goats could probably blow your doors off and that’s *embarrassing*, so you might as well be slow AND nice

    • Shut up, pumpkin. Id like to see you take a few trips around the track at sub 35 pace. Once the heat is turned up I bet you start dropping like a timber tree in the middle of December once the temperature drops below 32 degrees and the old man who lives next door starts putting up his lights and the rest of his driveway is still covered in snow because the neighbor boy hasn’t shoveled the driveway yet,

      • Why are you so angry? This is hilarious! Simmer down you spaz. It’s just about waving back and showing kindness to others. Something that’s disappearing in little five. Must be a sad little closed off world you live in

      • HAHAAHAHA AHAHA you are a spaz. Quit pretending youre Ryan Napp with this waving bullshit. You will never be Napp or even close. As a matter of fact I et youre so soft you cry when firehouse is coming

  8. Dear RC,

How incredibly irresponsible of you to hold an in-person, close-proximity Christmas party… You’re a poor excuse for ‘community leaders’ and it’s embarrassing that you represent the Little500 community with such reckless behavior. Do better. At least pretend you’re real leaders and act accordingly, especially when it comes to public health and safety. Did you forget that the nation has seen its highest fatality counts in the past few weeks alone? Did you forget that you’re putting other people at risk? Did you forget you’re supposed to represent responsibility and dedication to the community? Don’t even bother denying that party isn’t close-proximity… Everybody is well aware of exactly how incestuous Little 500 is, especially RC… you’re not fooling anybody here.

    xoxo,
    Gossip Girl

    • How fucking dare you say something like that on this message board. Yeah it’s 33to1, yeah we insult each other, but the fact that you have the audacity to say something like that about Anna or about any female in the field is pathetic and small. You are a spineless and spiteful, and there is no place for someone like you (and the person who responded) in this community.

      • No need to try to draw attention to yourself you joe Sweeney fanboy, we all know he was the one that posted the original comment

      • OK, for the record, it was a shit comment. But if you come here for civility, or decorum, or intellectual content, you are in the wrong place. People post crap like that to get the very reaction you provided and as a result, we will now get more. Most of us do what you should have done which was to consider the source and recognize it as a post that does not deserve a reply. Don’t give these people an audience.

33-to-1 is NOT a community; it is a shit-show, even though it wasn’t planned that way. Communities are places where people realize they are held accountable for their comments, and have moderators to keep things in acceptable boundaries. 33-to-1 has none of this. The race needs a forum that respects its members, you should start one. Because your tirade, no matter how true, is lost on most people here.

  9. 1. JB- 1-4 this is the strongest team out there. Expect to see them make a break early and not sure the rest of the field is strong enough to bring it back. Krahulik might not even have to touch the bike until the race is already sealed. He will just need to make sure his teammates can stay upright on their bikes.
    2. BKB- Possibly have the best 1-2 punch with Strobel and Logan. If they can get a 3 to eat laps they will be right up there with JB and good luck beating Strobel in a sprint.
    3. Chi Alpha- Strong outing at ITT’s and they’re still putting in the work. Jazz is as strong as anyone in the field with some solid guys right behind them. Watch out for them if it comes down to a last lap sprint.
    4. Phi Psi- Andrew La Valle might not have a supporting cast but he doesn’t need it. Possibly the strongest rider in the field. If he can get his riders to eat up the slow laps in the middle of the race Phi Psi can put their faith in this La Valle brother.
    5. Phi Delt- Phi Delts, under the control of Jeff, seem to be taking their training very serious this year, as noted by their lack of ability to wave back on the road. All jokes aside, they have been putting in the miles and them along with Phi Psi might be at the forefront of bringing Greek Life back to relevancy.

    Try Again Next Year
GG- With the fall of the once great Logan Tisdale, they will have to rely on Jake Richards, yes Jake Richards, to make things happen…try again next year. (Possible Top 10)
Cutters- People have been waiting on the downfall and here it is. Toran is a strong rider but he has absolutely no supporting cast. They return a lot next year so expect them to be right back to the podium. (Out of Top 10)

      • Lol nothing happened to him, he’s still crushing 300+w 3x20s. Goats catch a lot of flack on here (some of it self-inflicted), but Tisdale isn’t out of shape and can give anybody a run for their money on lap 200.

We’re still 18 weeks out from the race, 4.5 training blocks is enough time for a good rider to become a great rider, and for a team of 2 to become a team of 4. If anybody is looking for training motivation, this is it. You don’t get redo’s in L5.

      • *sighs* Goats always have to learn the hard way, come up justttt short enough every year, and disappoint themselves. the field already expects it…. and you can’t turn a team of 1 (let’s get serious, Jake is a joke) into a team of 4 with two rookies that can’t ride in a straight lines, much less hang with the big dogs… but if you doubt the inevitably obviously. we’ll just have to wait and see

      • Coach Kalb said it himself

“His top end is gone and may never come back”

He may be a hell of a road rider. But I’d be willing to guess that might be it. He will be good in the spring. But not like krahulik, Strobel, or briggs, all of who will be his competition at the end

  10. If that were a doctor, you’d be calling “tens unit therapy.” But since it’s a homeless guy on Walnut you resort to calling it a “taser.” Grow up and check your privilege.

  11. im a rookie
wanna see me poo and pee
    im a rookie
i might ride my bike into a tree
    im a rookie
im gonna drop the haters on lap 200 bitch watch me

thank you for coming to me ted talk

  12. Let’s set the record straight about GG. Logan is one of the strongest rider in Little 5 this year. If it comes down to a sprint it will be a battle between him and Strobel for the top spot. As for this idea that the goats are a one man team, people forget that Jack Dunsford has two years of race experience and has proven that he can get his sprinter to the last lap. Also slander Jake Richards all you want, but he went sub 9 minutes in team pursuit which is something none of the “top dogs” can say they’ve done.

I’m not saying GG should be your favorites to win this year, but to have them under teams such as Phi delt and Phi psi is just being willfully ignorant.

    • Finally someone who can use a brain. You know nothing about racing if you seriously think any of the Greek teams will place higher than Gray Goat…..

In other news, anyone have a decent read on the girls teams? Or is it just Theta and DG who stand a chance?

  13. hey guys rookei here

anyoen knows how i can slid into biker girl groopme from little 5 bik swab?

plz giv me cyclist pikup lines

    Thensk

  14. 2020 witnessed the overdue departure of Tara Vickers and Dan Smith. Hopefully 2021 will see the exit of Andrea Balzano and Beth Miller. Perhaps then IUSF can return to being a true student run organization where actions are principle based and not ego based. Actions that are the product of student insight, experience and ownership.

    • Its 2021 and we haven’t heard a word about Rookie Week, Spring Series or the Race. What are RC and Andrea even doing at this point? What have they done all semester? Already half of RC (including every officer) cant be bothered to participate in Little 500 events anyways.

      • We don’t have the schedule because iusf and Andrea can’t make the schedule until we have the soccer schedule. Happy new year:)

      • Ok, so Andrea is sitting around along with RC (who wouldn’t dare make a move without written permission from her) waiting for the soccer schedule. Only then will she start planning?

How about these things: Covid-19 testing. What will practice look like with social distancing? Covid-19 testing. With the global bike shortage, will we be getting new bikes? Covid-19 testing. How are pits/seating going to work on the North side of the Stadium? Covid-19 testing. Any rule changes, or are they all just implied (i.e. made up as Andrea’s ego sees fit) this year. Who will pay for the Covid-19 testing, if there is any?

Here is the soccer schedule, they don’t have the teams being played, but that is irrelevant to us.
https://iuhoosiers.com/sports/mens-soccer/schedule They play every Tuesday, Friday & Sunday.

Finally, exactly how did you come to the conclusion that RC is anyone’s friend other then their own. If they gave a damned, they would have had all of this info and more out there.

  15. Andrea and RC never looked for a soccer schedule before using it as an excuse… Sad but it sums up their contributions to Little 500 quite nicely !

  16. I can’t tell what is worse: a geed or a geed that keeps bitching and never steps up to the plate to take action? Lmk

  17. When did IUSF switch from being a proactive student organization to being a cloistered one? Nothing relevant on social media. Nothing to the riders or anyone else for that matter. No event photos. You get info about former SC weddings, about how I should be giving my money to IU, about talent shows and scavenger hunts. Former SC members giving Zoom talks to SC & RC. I know riders who have asked reasonable questions of IUSF not getting replies and then having their names removed from the email list. As far as stepping up to the plate? We’ve seen what happens if anyone does that, they are banished from the race with nothing more than a “No Comment”. Anyone who is seen as a threat to Andrea is “disappeared”. And EVERYONE is a threat to her unless you are one of her handpicked minions (RC & SC).

Here is some advice for anyone who might approach IUSF, never and I mean NEVER use the word: “Why”,

      • How fucking dare you say something like that on this message board. Yeah it’s 33to1, yeah we insult each other, but the fact that you have the audacity to say something like that about me or about any male in the field is pathetic and small. You are a spineless and spiteful, and there is no place for someone like you (and the person who responded) in this community.

  18. Post winter trip thoughts? Who do you guys got for the men’s and women’s field? I’m taking Theta all the way for the women. Men I’m not so sure about

  19. Men’s:
    1. BKB
    2. Jetblach
    3. Phi Psi
    4. Cutters
    5. Grey Goat
    6. Chi Alpha
    7. Sigep
    8. Fiji
    9. Phi Delt
    10. Mother Bears
    Women’s:
    1. Ski
    2. Theta
    3. DG
    4. Zana
    5. AXID
    6. Teter
    7. AXO
    8. TPA
    9. CSF
    10. Independent Council

    • Jetblach actually got worse during a training trip. Ride a century at least once or take all the dumb posts off your Instagram.

      • JETBLACH stays in Bloomington for winter training… don’t think they post their trutrainer rides… see you on race day pea brain!

      • The fact that you think a century makes you faster at little 500 is hilarious. People ride 4-5 hours to get ready for 80-90 mile road races and 140.6 Ironman. How long is little 500 again?
Keep riding your 2 centuries a month at 160 watts buddy. While you’re sitting there getting nothing useful done for the race, you could try reading a training book on track cycling.

      • Whatever dense scrub thinks L5 is closer to track cycling than road racing is gonna be in a salt ocean on race day lmao keep doing 1.5 hour training rides…

  20. Training trips done, and Ep + Phi Psi are top-5 teams after an intense week of racing the best Masters riders of SW Florida.

    Predictions:
    1). BKB
    2). Phi Psi
    3). GG
    4). Cutters
    5). Ep
    6). JB
    7). XA
    8). Bears
    9). FIJI
    10). Beta Sig

  21. You heard it here first. The Olsen-Cooper one-two punch will rival the greatest in this most recent era. Some might say even more dangerous than Beaumont-Curtis in 2019 and JJ-JackMac in 2018.
