The “IUSF Nation” deserved a better track today, and it would not have necessitated the conjuring up the ghost of Billl Armstrong to achieve one. The great constant today was the spectacle of wheels slipping around virtually the entire track. And this was independent of the speed the bikes were traveling. Dust flying is more than just an indication that water is critically needed, it is an indictment of a disregard for track safety, FULL STOP!
Each and every loose tire at Quals (and they were abundant today) translates into a wreck on race day. We do not need that kind of “spectacle in bike racing.” Track prep breaks are for returning the surface to one that every Little 500 rider deserves. Think SAFETY, first and foremost.
PLEASE. Just water the track and do so with this in mind. Putting water on the track at 9:00am on a sunny day is futile. 2000 gallons of water on the track will evaporate in less than 2 hours in the sun. So by 11am, all you have is a bill for water and that’s it. A loose track surface is not a nuisance it is an alarm that can not be ignored. Do not treat this critical function of IUSF as a “checkbox” that can be mindlessly filled in. It is a “Leadership Opportunity”. An opportunity the riders deserve and the tradition of Little 500 demands.

STOP ASKING THE PEOPLE RACING TO RUN THE EVENT. Everyone trains all year to be able to compete a small handful of days in the spring. Stop trying to take this away from them. Asking teams to tell their riders who may not have as good of chances at making it to semis or the finals in MNO, to register and work the event because you don’t believe they can is ridiculous and rude. No captain or leader should be asked to tell their people that they don’t believe in them and they should essentially quit before even having the chance to start. Be better and reflect on the animosity you’re creating between the field and yourselves.

-Little 500 Network is a joke. Creating hate and spreading so much criticism on random people is just weird. Also – it’s a bit confusing that little 5 network works directly with IUSF… which by the way pushes that Little 5 is an intramural event and doesn’t let cat 2s race because god forbid it’s too competitive!
-speaking of which … letting D1 athletes participate but not cat 2s is still interesting. Let the sport grow outside the race.
-the womens race is still ignored by so many. Why is it on a Friday every year? People have to call off work or miss class to go watch. IMO the women’s race continues to get more competitive and it’s never properly highlighted. Libby Lewis first ever freshman??? Come on just a little graphic?? She also made it to final MNO round..
-students helping students asks college kids who are probably earning college kid money to ask their friends to donate to a campaign… instead of alums or others with money. a bit odd IMO. Monetizing caring about your friends idk

completely agree. i was shocked by some of the stuff L5 network posts. like slandering teams’ performance and putting in sound bites of teams hating on each other. This isn’t a reality tv show. students helping students is weird as hell. we know damn well the school has enough funds to do that shit themselves. maybe they should spend less on investing in lethal weaponry and more on their actual students.
L5N talks about the same 3 teams. I can come to these conclusions off looking at spring series results too. Diversify the team talk and maybe get some rider insight instead of god knows who making some elementary judgements.

Good morning, race fans, and welcome back to the L5N Network. I’m Gigi Walls and I’m Ben10, and today we’re breaking down five things you missed from this year’s RC love triangle. Buckle up.
For anyone paying attention, it wasn’t exactly a shock that a President and VP who were hooking up might stir the pot. I mean, come on Gigi, we saw this coming from a mile away. But what nobody could’ve predicted was just how messy things would get.
On the men’s side, Owen Teed turned into a walking PR disaster. We’re talking full meltdown mode. He went from team leader to team liability real quick. Let’s just say, if there’s a naughty list, he’s on it—and honestly, he should probably be booted from RC altogether. I know I don’t want that guy representing IUSF. Me neither, Ben.
And over on the women’s side, Brigit Pfau absolutely tanked Delta Gamma’s momentum. Gigi, we watched them dominate quals and ITTs with killer team chemistry, but when it came to their Team Pursuit run? It all fell apart. A disappointing fifth-place finish and a whole lot of tension on display.
It’s clear something’s not right. Are they disgusted by Pfau’s actions? Can they put aside the drama and rally behind her for race day? Only time will tell.
