Feel free to use this area to discuss anything and everything about the Little 500 — Qualifications, Spring Series, the race itself.

Please, no character attacks. Trash-talking is great, but slandering people isn’t. Let’s keep it clean. Or your post will be deleted.

  1. Rumor on the street is that Hank from Forest wants to jump ship so badly that he has started the forest fires in California in order to rid of all forests so that the team will go extinct. In result he realized forest was named after the dorm and is back to the drawing board to find a new plan.

    • Wonder how it feels to be the downfall of the last mens dorm team? Captain always goes down with his ship and Hank’s is sinking fast!! Just admit you want to join the Cutters

  2. If you are struggling to identify your training zones this winter here’s some advice my coach taught me.

    Zone 6: 100% all out
    Zone 5: 85 – 95%
    Zone 4: 75 – 85%
    Zone 3: 55 – 75%
Zone 2: Andrew Lavalle ITT pace
    Zone 1: 15 – 30%

    No need to thank me.

    • Low blow attacking a freshman who hasn’t had the chance to prove himself yet. Everyone knows fall itt times don’t mean anything in the spring

      • He may prove himself later, but for the most hyped rookie this year, 97/99 is just comical. A non-cyclist with some athletic ability could roll <3:00 after a week of riding. If a critical/comedic comment on this dumb forum ruffles your feathers this much, then maybe it sparks the fire that pushes him to be better.

        XOXO,
        Johnny Bravo

  3. The annual Forest Cycling hiking adventure trip will be held again at 4pm in the parking lot by Griffy on the Saturday before finals week. Come out and hike with your favorite dorm team, Forest Cycling! Tickets are only $5 and include a hug with each forest teammember.

See you out on the trails!

  4. People have ripped on Independent teams all fall, but let’s be real: There’s much lower hanging fruit on the tree.

Does Sig Chi even have riders? Beta is looking to be a disappointment again. The Phi Delt meatheads are laughably on pace to destroy their legacy again. Delta Chi is just another mediocre team of guys that try really hard but will be a non-factor in the spring. Phi Psi has a few solid riders that flat out suck on Little 5 bikes.

The only good teams in the race with the exception of Sig Ep, will be Independent.

    • Really? You think the geeds have that much more of an advantage?

      BKB has 1 rider
Gray Goat can’t even keep a pair of brothers together on their team
Bears are the most irrelevant, relevant team
Jetblach are a shittier BKB. 1 rider with a top coach
Forest is a route, not a real Little 5 team

I would take Ep, returning 2 top 5 ITTers over everyone except Cutters
      Beta will reload
Delta chi has more workhorses than every team on the track if they can all stay academically eligible
And phi psi has more talent and potential than every independent team. Return everyone and Albert is a beast

      • BKB has Xavier who won ITTs, Strobel who won street sprints and was 4th in ITTs, and Rosati who was 9th in ITTs all this fall, and won Fall Series.
One brother left GG because he’s a top 30 ITT-er that sat out of last year’s race but can obviously contribute?
Bears still outperformed every Greek team at fall series, not really that irrelevant
Jetblach still had better ITTs than Phi Psi
        Forest is indeed a route.
3PH will still be more solid than most Greek teams

For the Greeks, I agree with you about Ep but they’re pretty much the only contending Greek team at the moment.
There is no guarantee Beta gets the act together.
Delta Chi a work horse is a nice way of saying they’re still average and don’t have a shot at winning.
Phi Psi is way overrated…but they do have potential. Albert is a beast on the road and not on the track. The other guys had average-below average ITTs, and their wide range of heights makes for a tough fit on two Little 5 bikes. Albert will also burn out before April because he doesn’t know how to train. They are nowhere close to having the most talent out of any team though…inside the top 10 is debatable.

Given all of the information we’ve gotten this fall I think these are pretty fair judgments. We’ll see what Krahulik can put together with SAE, but other than that the Greeks don’t look like they’ll have a great year.

  5. Re: @realtalk
BKB- Fall series doesn’t mean anything. Top 10 in a field of 12 doesn’t mean anything. BKB has no 4th because Rob whatever is made of glass. Xavier/ Strobel going to have to eat laps for them.
GG- That’s just 1 example of a crack. He definitely would be racing for them this year. 2 returners from last year and only Logan seems to be a threat on the track.
Bears- see BKB. Fall series doesn’t matter. No frat teams gave 2 shits.
Jetblach- Only reason they’re maybe better than Phi Psi is CB. Albert > Oehler

    To counter your Greek arguments…
Beta- always finds a way to reload. When was the last time you genuinely found a beta team that belonged outside the top 8? I don’t think anybody thought of them as contenders last year and they almost pulled it off. Make that move 5 laps later and they’re in yellow.
Delta Chi- Look at beta last year. They have a similar team composition and they ARE all hard workers.
Phi Psi- That seems like a hot take to shit on a guy’s training when you don’t know shit about the way he trains. He’s fucking fit. It already carried over to the track this year and I only see him improving more after a year of experience.

Only geeds with a chance to win is Cutters. The Greeks are just hands down deeper this year. Quantity and quality of teams

  6. While this Geed vs Greek argument is extremely entertaining, I think it’s wrong to say only one side has a strong chance to be competitive. I think there are teams on both sides with a big chances to win depending on the type of race.

If it’s slow and a big sprint like last year I think podium teams (in no order) are cutters, EP, and BKB just because Noble, Xavier, and Settle are going to be the best 3 guys in the field. They’ll be too ITTs and the MNO final lap is my guess.

If it’s a faster more strung out race I think you’ll see Ep, Phi Psi, BKB, and Beta fighting for the win just because those are the teams that’ll have at least 3 guys who can hold a hot pace and make a solid breakaway attempt. I would put Cutters in here but based on their returning ITT places I don’t think they’ll have 2-4 depth to hold with a fast race. In that case I think Noble would have to do more work than they’d like and take some matches away from him for a finish.

Of course track conditions and yellows will play a factor but I think the race this year is super wide open and will make for a great race. People are afraid of Cutters in a sprint and the depth of other teams and the fear of a breakaway will make it interesting to see what people do. I think your winner comes from Cutters, BKB, EP, or Beta. They have the best combinations of strongest riders and smartest coaches. Just my 2 cents though!

    • ^Andrew La Valle the kinda kid to not understand your joke, thank you sincerely for it, smile like a puppy, and then tell your top 20 team “hey guys, great race!” from the podium….

and then go do flashers twice

  7. So many of you are just so sad and pathetic. Talking shit about each other just because you’re insecure about your own capabilities. Just focus on yourself and maybe you’ll get a top 30 ITT in the spring.

    • Nobody looked great, it was a strong ride though. 10-12 guys were talking about how they have been already been doing FTP intervals and hill repeats for 2-6 weeks now. Nobody knows what a burnout is apparently

    • Mine are (no order)
      1. Xavier
      2.Noble
      3. Settle
      4. Logan Tisdale
      5. Victor Grossling
      6. Rob Strobel
      7. Langley
      8. Jake Richards
      9. Fergus Arthur
      10. Oehler

      • All of these guys put in a ton of work and are super impressive, hope to see them all do well in the spring

      • 1. Xavier – 2:17.9
        2. Settle – 2:19.0
        3. Noble – 2:20.3
        4. Harris – 2:20.5
        5. Tisdale – 2:22.4
        6. Krahulik – 2:22.6
        7. Albert – 2:23.3
        8. Robert O – 2:23.35
        9. Dom – 2:23.1
        10. Langley – 2:23.4

        Assuming it’s a nice day

        (Good track conditions)

      • @huh:
Who cares? Sigma Chi will be trash so hell have no motivation come spring
I hearr he burnt out and doesn’t even ride anymore so no way
        Overrated. Plain and Simple.

  8. That discussion has already started I heard. Has to be some way to keep 1 person from folding 5 fraternities into 1 independent team?

    • Probably the normal offenders.
Cutters, BKB, and GG for the geed side. Those 3 have been running the men’s independent field for the last few years and each of their #1 riders are some of the best in the field.
Sig Ep, Phi Psi, and Beta will probably be the best greeks. They all have returners coming back and strong coaches. Sig Ep and Beta will both have strong senior riders that will be top 10 ITTers and Phi Psi is young and loves to ride hard.

    • More importantly who are the fiercest contenders for the James Welch Memorial Ice Mile p/b Smirnoff?
I have my money on Hot “Washed Up” Brad wooing the field to a two minute margin of victory; everyone would be smart to bet on him too.

  9. PSA for teams going on training trips:

    1. Stay away from alumni’s wives, we all know Holtcamp.

    2. For BKB; sleep face up, Xavier has been known to “explore”

    3. Enjoy the sunshine

  10. Certain teams (Jetblach) LOVE to talk about how hard their “secret” training is, but I’m not sure how much drift racing in Target shopping carts will prepare them for the race!

    • Goats have an identity crisis going on and currently look like their team was picked from the Island of Misfit Riders. Tisdale is ok though.

Winning pedigree versus a bunch of adult muffin connoisseurs, need I say more?

      • You think 2 wins is a winning pedigree…? Your midget man crossed the line because everyone else was wrecked out in 2014. And don’t hate on our muffins.

      • I’m not a BKB.

Goats have 0 wins and lost your only race finisher. A bunch of muffin junkie-hill climbers without athleticism isn’t the winning formula for Little 500, don’t fool yourselves.

    • I never want to be the person to spread false rumors, but the last I heard he was on his way out of Sae and going to CUTTERS to be the guy after Noble is done in the spring. My neighbor is well connected to the CUTTERS and told me it was almost a done deal. My source has been right when it comes to CUTTERS news in the past so I have enough reasons to trust him. Call me a fool, but that’s what I have been hearing.

  11. Guys Xavier is so fast that he got 3rd in the bunch sprint… soooooo fast. Dude what an animal, killed it by getting 3rd… what a sprinter… sooooo fast. Knapp must be so proud

      • Imagine being an independent, your identity is biking, and your only social circle for your four years of college is an all male intramural bike team

      • Imagine being a Greek where your only identity is being a douche and your only social circle is 100 other horned up drunk guys you have to pay to live with

      • Life,
You’re correct. But just like you may not be a Fiji level douche, not all Geeds are BKB/Cutters level of socially awkward. Many feed teams actually derive from other social clubs at the university. Please don’t lump us all together and maybe we won’t do the same to you. Cheers!

  12. I’ve been hearing that Beta is getting kicked off campus and may be forming an independent team. Do they and Kappa Sig join forces?

  13. Way too early race results

    1. Bears
    2. BKB
    3. Phi Psi
    4. Gray Goat
    5. Jet Blach
    6. Cutters
    7. Sig Chi
    8. Beta
    9. 3PH
    10. Delta Chi

      • To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Positrion’s selcetions. The acuity is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the predictions will go over a typical reader’s head.

I’m smirking right now just imagining the addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Positron’s genius projections come to fruition on race day. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂

        Nothin personnel kid 😎

      • It was Paul Dirac who reasoned it’s existance, not Einstein. Silly geeds only know one scientist. Your Little 500 team still won’t win either…

  14. Everyone welcome Nicks Cycling!!! Watch out for them Griffin has really been putting in the miles this year!! ❤

  15. The amount of late night hookup opportunities that I’ve turned down because of next morning bike practice is too many to count. It’s weird in that I believe my biker status has made me so popular amongst the women. I just need to remember that these fun college experiences are distractions and ultimately harmful to my race day performance. I’m in college to race my Little 500 bike, not to have inmature fun with very attractive girls #OneDayInApril

  16. Can we talk about how outrageous it is there is a petition and growing movement to make the women’s race 200 laps when over 50% of the women’s field couldn’t even complete 100 laps in a slow race in 2018? Aggressively changing rules like this is only going to grow the gap between the 1-3 competitive women’s teams and the 27 filler teams. Hilarious that it’s being led by a team that has finished the 100 lap race ONCE since 2012

    • I bet Ryan Knapp and Theta have signed that petition at least 50 times each. Gotta make the race longer and harder before any other women’s teams have a chance to be on the level of Theta/DG!
I feel like this issue should be addressed after they figure out how to increase participation in the women’s race because changed the number of lacks will only make the race less desirable for new teams.

      • I am curious if anyone on here has any unique or borderline crazy ideas to promote participation in the women’s race. Initially, I thought reducing the amount of people allowed on a team, but I think that would only bring the numbers down instead of encouraging people to make new teams.
The most “out there” idea I have is to let a team race 2 groups of 4. However, the teams would have to submit a list of 8 riders who are randomly placed into each team.

      • A good way to promote the women’s race would be to start a petition to make it 200 laps, getting it in the newspaper and on local news… just an idea

    • Totally agree, almost 50% (16 teams) couldn’t finish the men’s race. There’s clearly too big a gap between the competitive teams and the filler teams. The men’s race should be decreased to 100 laps.
