  1. Been in a coma for a week. This still a thing? I thought this 200 lap petition was just Blake Mezo trying to get his dick wet

  2. How can someone expect the women’s field to double the race within a one year span? Maybe if the petition was for 125 for 5 years or less and then bump to 150/175 and 200 then sure that’s a good way to do it without hopefully losing more people but doubling to 200 in one year is ridiculous. The article in the IDS is shameful saying they would ride to lap 200 in protest, think about the team who won and has their family and everyone their supporting them and they want their victory lap. Not some group of girls pulling antics on the track for attention. They brought light to situation by wanting to increase the lap count which is a good idea but not double in one year. A progression is what it should be.

  3. Only entitled feminists would be using the “ if not then the men’s race needs to go to 100 laps” to argue that the women’s race needs to be 200. Do they want less or more teams on the lead lap? The only people this benefits is top 3 women’s teams. What a great way to discourage participation amongst women, so empowering.

If they want real equality, let them try and qualify against the men’s teams. I’m sure a few female teams could actually grab a spot and do better then some of the men’s teams in the race.

  4. Issac Neff was jacking off X so hard that caused an aroused Nick Hartman to fall off the balcony while peeping to land on X’s foot and brake it. Sad day.

  5. 1a. Xavier Martinez- X has proven himself in almost every way. His ability to hold a breakaway is unmatched by all. Add in one of the best sprinters BKB has seen since Spencer B and the Bulls suddenly become multidimensional
1b. Noble Guyon- He put the team on his back last year and won the whole thing. Easily the most intelligent racer in the field and his legs aren’t too bad either 🙂
    3. Tom Settle- Clearly the 3rd most talented rider in the field who does everything well but has no “elite” skills to match X’s motor and Noble’s craft. That said- Tom is still really freaking good.
4a. Logan Tisdale- Gray Goat’s newest stud, Goats won’t skip a beat after two consecutive second places. Tisdale will be a huge part of that if his Fall ITTs are any indication of his progression.
4b. Ben Harris- Clearly the most underrated rider in the community (no he doesnt suck, no hes not washed up). Give him two weeks of focused training and he will go sub 2:24 easily. Sorry to everyone predicting SigEp to suck but his “unfit” is still better than 90% of the field.
    6. Albert Valle- He has been grinding all year and it really showed when he easily rode away from Oehler in TNRS.
    7. Caleb Langley- He has the highest top speed and best acceleration out of anyone. The only knock against him is his ability to the final lap
    8. Buck “Robert” Strobel- His sprinting aint no darn joke. BKB can control the race with two elite riders
    9. Robert Aehler- Bishop’s new protege. Can he be the next Tormelon or Stuart in his sophomore season?
    10. Dom Fieri and Jake Richards- Really hard to pick this one. Proven and consistent talent or a badass road racer? Ha! I’ll take both please

      • None of those names have done anything on the track significant enough to be listed higher than that top 10

      • I considered Ben and the Beta Bros for my rankings but I cant see how the other guys come close. This is how I came to my decision:
        1. Ben is obviously very talented but I dont think he has many skills that set himself apart from anyone besides being an extremely useful and efficient lap eater. Take a look at his position at lap 199 last year and compare that to 3ph’s results. 3ph are desperate for a finisher and he cant get it done
        2. SAE are in a freefall and he seems to be negligent. That program is nothing without Joe and lacks any form of strong leadership. The worst part is that he does not seem to give a darn about it. Know one knows what is going on at SAE but it is a bad look for him and the program.
        3. Aepi riders can climb and draft in a pack during IUCC rides but can never back it up on the track. I dont think this year will be different at all.
        4. I am unfamiliar with this person.

  6. Noble as 1B? He won and they have 3 returning riders and a strong replacement for the guy that graduated.
Opposing coaches should coordinate with other teams and launch multiple attacks forcing Cutters to bring back all of them on their own. They have no choice and teams would be stupid to let them hide all day again only to allow Noble to blast off at the finish with only 20 laps ridden.

    • The race was significantly faster in the 80s in spite of many more yellow flag laps*. The best teams gathered at the front and crushed it from the start.
*There were more wrecks as a result of the fast pace and, to be fair, lack of rookie orientation.

      • I think if there’s a year for this to happen it’s going to be this one. No team has great 1-4 depth to do a break away and there a few teams who are going to want to sit and sprint. Nobody wants Noble there on 199 and nobody wants X/Ep/ GG off with <10 to go. Teams are going to drill it to try and counteract both those outcomes. If that’s the case, Cutters and BKB might have to rely on their stars just to stay in contention with some teams that are deeper than them and can have a better rotation.

    • Mr. Sharts,
What are you taking offense to with me ranking Noble and X as equals? Both of them have been the driving forces behind their respective teams victories (albeit in very different ways). Both of them are well regarded within the community. Oh and they’re freaking STUDS too.

      • Cutters return 3 riders, Noble who is arguably the best in the field, then a junior who has raced in the two previous Little 5’s and another junior who raced last year. They both placed in the top 30 in ITT’s and they replace Eric with a stud rookie. This is arguably the deepest team, BKB is 2 deep and EP is for sure two deep, maybe 3. Is Eli back or no? Gay goat has a combined IQ of 2. Jet black has bishop, they are dangerous for that reason. Phi psi… who knows, are they all hype and no talk? Not sure, they look good on paper, yet placed no one in the top 30’s of itts and did well in the 4/5’s fall series… lol okay? . Cutters on paper should take the race, most dangerous is jet black to take it with maybe beta or GG sneaking in there. Bkb doesn’t have a strong 4 anymore, their talent drops off drastically after Xavier and Strobel.

  7. Top 5 Men:
    1. Xavier Martinez (BKB) – X earns this by being he most proficient at everything . An ITT winning motor and sprint contesting speed make him a threat. Despite his overall skill as a rider he lacks the pop of a Guyon or Langley to be a race winning sprinter. Likely ITT winner with a potential record if conditions are right.
    2. Noble Guyon (CUTTERS) – the best finisher and smartest racer, Nobles craftiness and explosiveness make him the biggest threat in a bunch sprint. Lacking the motor of X, his 1 lap speed is hard to beat. Likely MNO winner.
    3. Tom Settle (Sig Ep) – The utility man of the field, proficient at everything but not stellar. A motor to compete with X in ITTs and smarts and spin to make the final 3 in MNO. Likely 2nd place in both events after #1 and #2 in their respective events.
    4. Ben Harris (Sig Ep) – don’t understand the hate on Ben. So he enjoys life outside of riding who cares. Ben oozes natural talent so give him a semester of training and he becomes a big threat. Very similar to Settle, Ben is a utility man. Big motor for a top 5 ITT finish and leg speed to get a good gap. He makes Ep the TP favorite.
    5. Logan Tisdale (Gray Goat) – no slump for the sophomore. Fitness allowing him to be the closest to X in the fall is no joke and experience and pack smarts from him racing last year make him a name that’ll be towards the top of results in the spring.
    Honorable mentions:
    – Caleb Langley (Bears)
    – Colten Renier (Beta)
    – Patrick Coulter (CUTTERS)
    – Albert LaValle (Phi Psi)

    • Xavier has no hope in a sprint and Noble can respond to Xavier’s attacks and draft unless he’s not on the bike or is worn down. Some of the best attacks in history occurred very early in the race. Note to field: Attack early and often.

I agree with Coppens at #1.

  8. Top 5 Women:
    1. Hanna Coppens (DG) – the best sprinter last year after Brown and Brooke so no surprise here. If her drive and mentality spread to the rest of DG they’ll be the favorite. Calling her as the ITT champ, MNO champ, and DG pole sitters.
    2. Caitlin Kamplain (TPA) – great athlete with strong results in last years spring series events. Her with Courtney in the pit could be deadly. Top 3 ITT and MNO finalist.
    3. Erika Arakawa (Theta) – 2nd year jump is going to happen and a fall ITT win sets her up nicely to lead Theta to a potential 3 peat. If Knapp can develop her well she could threaten Coppens in all the events. Top 5 ITTer and MNO finalist,
    4. Ivy Moore (SKI) – Ivy is arguably the most naturally talented rider in the field and if she can keep healthy she can use her talent to disrupt a lot of teams and their star riders. Arguably the best supporting cast, she could be set up well on lap 99.
    5. Erin Adair (AGD) – good ITT results and good reputation throughout the field, she’s been showing up at IUCC rides. If she transfers that to the track she’ll be a threat. She’s going to be slept on but you heard it here first.
    Honorable mentions:
    – Laura Watanabe (Theta)
    – Heldman (Phi Mu)
    – Bignal (DG)
    – McDonald (AOII)

  9. DG’s bike team calendar is out! we are just trying to raise funds for our team. Hit us up for a copy. I promise that you won’t be disappointed

  10. Depth Rankings
    Through 2 riders
    1. Sig Ep- Settle and Harris
    2. Cutters- Noble and Coulter
    3. BKB- Xavier and Strobel

    Through 3 Riders
    1. Cutters- Noble, Coulter, Huibregste
    2. Sig Ep- Settle, Harris, Eli
    3. Gray Goat- Richards, Mezo, Dunsford

    Full Teams
    1. Cutters
    2. Gray Goat
    3. Sig Ep

I think Cutters are top to bottom the best team in this field by a significant margin. Shades of 2008-2011 strong with Noble and elite supporting cast. Gray Goat at #2. While their stars lack experience, they have an abundance of fitness and swagger. I would be terrified of Gray Goat off the front with anything less than 20 to go. Sig Ep comes in at 3 with a strong 1-2-3 punch. Harris will destroy internet perceptions this spring and they showed last year it’s possible to dominate a race with only 3 riders. Don’t know how to rank BKB. Strong through 2 but clearly underdeveloped their 2017 rookies at the expense of winning that year. Paying the price now. Beta could be top 5. Colten is legit and their program is able to churn out usable riders with good fitness every year. Jet black is the wildest card this year. A solid sprinter, better depth than BKB, Phi psi, and Bears with Courtney Bishop is a dangerous combo. Could finish 1st or 10th and I wouldn’t be surprised

  11. Cutters secret revealed:

Jim Kirkham has just completed a secret construction project under the arboretum. The underground, 1-to-1 replica of the track, (carcinogenic track cinders included) is now being used by the Cutter team to discreetly gain a massive advantage over their competition.

This is from a trusted source. Consider yourselves warned…

    • Hey bro I am in LAW FREAKING SCHOOL, if Kirkham pulls this shit on the beautiful and glorious community of The Little 500 I will have him arrested and prosecuted as a terrorist. I go to a TOP 50 law school, yeah you heard that right, top 50. It may not be the T14 (the only ones that matter) but I am basically a LAWYER so I am strapping up my chacos and zipping up my patagonia and getting my kayak and coming to Bloomington. You will see me in my yellow jersey afterwards at Nicks with a low calorie beer and a poc helmet on (for real you can’t miss me homies). So join me once I prosecute Kirkham as a terrorist. Bruh I swear I did not study POLITICAL FREAKING SCIENCE for 4 years to not kick some ass. Peace and love my peeps, I will see y’all soon.

  12. Not sure why but I heard that Phi Psi lost two of their three core riders in North Woods and Wes Duke. I think this hurts their chances for being a dark horse contender. Maybe they’ll have rookies like last year who can help Albert

  13. Men’s Little 5 teams as B10 football programs

Michigan- Betas: always near the top, but haven’t won in a little while
Michigan St.- Sig Ep: lots of success in last 7 years, one championship
Penn St.- Jetblach: sanctions, but still good
Ohio St.- Cutters: traditional power, most cheer against them
    Rutgers- Theta Chi: duh.
Indiana- Sigma Chi: always looking, but failing, to turn the corner and become really good
Maryland- Phi Psi: new to the scene, lots of promise

Wisconsin- BKB: Always good, pretty likable
Iowa- Bears: good and consistent, always have a star on the roster, but haven’t capitalized yet
Purdue- SAE: went from really bad to really good very quickly in the past few years
Minnesota- Forest: not talked about much, just there. Always decent. Promising future.
Nebraska- Delta Chi: Used to be great
Northwestern- 3PH: How’d they get so good so quickly?
Illinois- Acacia: Not as bad as Rutgers, but bad

    • 1. Cutters- Returning 3 of 4, including the most dangerous sprinter in Little 5 since Eric Young. Other 2 returners looked strong all 2018 and should be able hang with any team’s 1-4, with the exception of maybe X, T Settle, or B Harris. Expect to see a similar strategy as last year with Noble winning the sprint.
      2. BKB- X has the biggest engine in the field this year. Got some massive gaps last year and I don’t see anybody but Noble or the EP boys being able to catch that wheel when he gets a head of steam built up. A long final breakaway set a la RJ Stuart could be in the works if he can get any help from his teammates.
      3. EP- 2 of the most dangerous riders in the field on the same team, each very well rounded and experienced. Strongest 1-2 punch in the whole field while getting to take their pick of rushee riders, because, let’s be honest, if you’re biking before IU and rushing a frat, you want to go EP.
      4. Gray Goat- One word for this team: DEEP. I would be shocked if they don’t get 4 riders in the top 15. I think they have the 2nd best 1-2 punch behind EP in the field and they have loads of young talent. If some of their young riders from last year can develop to compete with the Cutters 2-4 or the EP boys, I think Gray Goat has the best chance to pull off a breakaway this year of any team.
      5. Bears- Struggled between Beta and Bears here, but had to go with Bears in the end. Langley is a monster on the road and I can see him carrying it over onto the track this year. Add in a Josh Richards brother engine and a great supporting cast, and Bears has the depth and talent to make it to 199 and contest in a sprint or a breakaway effort.

What are your predictions and reasons Mr. Hmm?

      • Noble is not the best sprinter since Young. Very good? Absolutely. Favorite in a sprint this year? Sure. But if you take the best sprinters since 2012 and put them in a MNO, noble doesn’t win. Like T dusted Joe in the race when he was at his peak after a 2:17 and MNO win so he’s probably the best sprinter in the past few years. Noble hasn’t won MNO or gone sub 2:20 and almost lost the sprint in 18. Definite threat and great finisher, but let’s slow down on calling him the next Eric Young.

    • 1. BKB – ranked number one for the reason because they will win. X has a hell of motor that can compete with anyone in any situation. Buck also provides a lot of flexibility on the team. 2 top 10 ITT for sure. No doubt Knapp will develop 2 strong supporting riders

      2. Cutters – Returning champs looking for 14 but they won’t get it this year. Returning 3 of 4 from last year plus their super senior, victor who ripped apart the field in TNRS. Everyone will have their eyes on cutters and when Noble gets on the bike the race will be over

      3. Gray Goat – Coming off of 2 2nd places GG is looking to make something happen. Tisdale is looking strong and will bring value to the table, combine that with richards road experience they will have a good 1-2 punch. Question is can they get to the line in one piece.

      4. Phi Psi – Building off last years momentum people will have their work cut out to beat these boys. They have been working hard all year and it will pay off. Albert won TNRS by a landslide early fall fitness. Sure as hell can’t depend on his little bro tho he can barely get on and off a bike

      5. SigEp – Everyone has been talking about SigEp this year, returning 3 of 4. No doubt tom settle is strong enough for all situations but lacking a “specialty” they could have trouble. Harris will be strong come race day. With SigEp having 2 strong riders and their benchwarmer from last year, this is where they fall.

      • I don’t disagree with you ranking BKB over Cutters (I think they’re probably 1b and 1a). But Phi Psi?? Last I heard they lost Wes and North. I don’t think they were necessarily world beaters on the track but that’s still 2 solid riders who have race experience. Albert may be fit but I don’t think he’s Luke T 2016 fit (and definitely not that caliber sprinter) and he will probably need to do about 100 laps to keep them in contention if they’re racing new rookies.

      • Even bad teams like Phi Delt will finish higher than Phi Psi, Phi Psi just isn’t built for the track and they lost Wes and North.

  14. I don’t know what you’re all talking about, Cutters had a huge fallout between Noble and Kirkham, from what I’ve heard only Coulter and two rookies are left, both W. Hubrex(?) and Noble quit. Bad thing to happen to Little 5.

  15. Spotted: Gray Goat doing stupid shit, riding ugly ass bikes and ,and telling future rookies, “hey we got second two years in row”

    XOXOXO

  16. Any women’s race predictions? IMO I think it’s more open than the men’s and much tighter competition.

    1. DG – Coppens is back and is going to be the best rider in the field. R Brown and Brooke cast a shadow over her last year but this year I think she’ll shine and add in a supporting cast that carried her to the line last year, I think her and DG take the checkers. But if something happens to rider 2/3/4, coul be bad if she has to do a lot of laps.
    2. SKI – Lots of depth and Ivy as the star, they’re going to be deadly. They have the depth and talent to go for a long attack OTF and Ivy gives them a very very good chance in a sprint. It will come down to how smart Kirkham is on race day.
    3. Theta – Without a Browb this year, I think theta lacks a true finisher so if it’s a sprint, there finishing spot could range from podium to 10th. A big question mark, Knapp always seems to find a way.
    4. Theta Phi Alpha – short and sweet: Courtney in the pit and Caimplan as Thormelon I could see a 2016 delts type finish.
    5. Anyone else. These 4 are the only teams to watch.

    • That’s a solid response. : )
Nearly as impressive as setting the record is convincing IUSF to allow another attempt because he knew he would set the record. Nowadays if you ghost ride your bike almost into another racer in disgust after your chain breaks, you get a 10-20 sec penalty for the race.
I for one liked things better the old way and am glad Hans got to go again for the record. Had it not been for the 2nd attempt, Joe Krahulik would be the record holder today.
But then again, if Eric Young raced it in the same track/wind conditions as Hans he might be the record holder.

    • Sig Ep is in a class of their own vs. all other frat teams. I think they have a good chance to not only be the best greek team in the mens race but win the race.

Beta is always good, dependable top 5-6 team year in and out. They’ll be strong again this year. Phi psi was gonna be decent but…LOL.

SAE biggest question mark. If Rob makes a big jump, he could carry that team to lap 200 but he’s not the sprinter that Joe is/was. They could finish top 5 or outside of top 15.

    • This is a 4 man race. Phi Delt is returning 4 riders with 2 races each and they caught back on the lead lap after a crash last year. I’d take them before I have SAE’s one man team, but I see both outside the top 10.

Phi Psi could have been if they didn’t have two guys quit. Delta Chi is up in the air too.

I agree Sig Ep is the only real threat from the Greeks. Beta will be a surprise this spring, they could tip either way.

    • What is the deal with SAE this year? I heard mixed things about their “team” but at the end of the day they still have a Krahulik there for a couple more years. There’s no way they are as bad as everyone is suggesting or?

      • They’re not as bad. They’ve got Rob Krahulik and Will Evans who are both sophomores. Those two together can make it to the final lap but probs wouldn’t compete well in the sprint without a third or fourth rider to eat the first 180 laps for them. Joe Krahulik trains them hard. Just a matter of them finding another average rider soon. 2021 will be their best bet

      • SAE’s Evans is known as “The Engineer” by many because he simply gets in front and leads. He shows no fatigue, fueled only by hot chocolate, cookies and candy canes, as he grinds out nearly identical sets.

  17. Word on the street is that Jack Mac is coming back. Allegedly enrolled in 2nd 8 week classes so that he can race 👀

  18. Jack Mac is back. Andrea has confirmed it as her eyes lit up about Jack Mac’s arm. That boy has the arms of a Greek God. Beta bringing back the Jack Mac/Colten duo leaving teams wondering who the f**k is on the bike, IS IT JACK OR IS IT COLTEN

  19. Several sources have confirmed that Jack Mac himself has been spotted in the SRSC absolutely killing an arm workout consisting of curls, curls, and even more curls. Make no mistake about it ladies and gentlemen, Jack Mac is the real deal.

    • Shit don’t even worry about Little 5, hide your girlfriends, your sisters, your moms, and hell even your grandmas. Jack mac is coming pumping curls. Takes notes Nick Hartman, jack Mac has two giant balls dangling down there, you got some chic peas bro.

    • Nah bro the people’s champs were talking about when everyone wrecked out and they won on a yellow. It was super historic lol

      • Typical hater response: “We totally would have won that sprint sitting 8th wheel, boxed on the inside, if it weren’t for Chris Craig wrecking in front of us!”

BKB has far and away been the most consistently dominant team in the past five years. X and the baby bulls are going to take home the team’s third title in April. Mark my words.

      • In my defense, I wasn’t trying to defend Hartman racing like a moron because let’s face it…he did. Even if he didn’t he wouldn’t have won against those 2. I’m no “people’s champ”, but just calling out what I think is the only relatively “positive” thing Hartman did in L5 to piss other teams off, assuming the fake Hartman Comments are Cutters Or he’s just a dick and people still holding them grudges

  20. You have $10 to build a team to compete in the 2019 Men’s Little 500

$4- Joe Krahulik, Luke Tormoehlen, Kevin Depasse, Noble Guyon, Rob Lee
$3- Xavier Martinez, Nick Torrance, Chris Craig, Nick Theiry, Spencer Braccula
$2- Charlie Hicks, Sam Stratton, Andy Krahulik, Paul Smith, Kyle Knight
$1- Nick Hartman, Brooke Hannon, Jack Mac, James Welch, Erin Zollman

    Who’s your squad?

    • Sig ep is good. Beta is solid. I see sig ep as a true race contender and beta as a podium contender for sure. At the very least, they have top end talent that Bears, GG, BKB don’t have outside of their 1 star (if you even classify langley or richards a star…I do not)

      • Can we just get over saying that GG is a contender this year? No Welch, no Stratton, no Torbik, just some skinny kids built for hill climbs and not track racing. They’re respectable bike riders off the track, but they don’t have the pop to make gaps to breakaway and they aren’t going to win in a sprint.

  21. GG is absolutely a contender this year. I’d argue they’re the deepest team in the field this year through 6 riders and while they don’t have a true “superstar”, depth will always keep you in the lead pack with a breakaway chance. People wrote them off for not having a true sprinter last year and Sam beat Xavier, Hicks, Krahulik, and many others in the bunch sprint. FOH with that “Gray Goat isn’t a contender” BS

    • Are you forgetting about BKB and Cutters for that matter? BKB has Xavier, Buck, Jay, Rob, and Zach. I’d take that over GG any day.

      • BKB? Really? Cutters return 3/4 while BKB after X and Strobal have a 2:31 ITTer who looks like he should ride for Pike, a 2:35 ITTer who’s in a boot, and a 2:42 fall ITT rookie more interested in curls than bikes.

Not on the same level as cutters. I’d take 3 Cutters before I’d take BKBs #2. Gray goat at least has 6 guys capable of holding a wheel in the pack

    • You made my point only having substance from last year. This year they have only 1 of the guys left they had developed for 3-4 years. It’s a team of sophomores with no pop and a combined 2 years of L5 race experience. HUGE. Nobody said GG was a trash team last year, nobody guessed that Stratton would be 2nd in a heads up pack sprint. Where is Stratton this year though? “FOH” should be the GG team motto to demonstrate how pre-teen they’ve become.

    • Everyone out here talking about depth like it matters. 2012/16 Delts would laugh at this convo. 2016 Phoenix would laugh at this convo. ATO would laugh. Eric Young would laugh.
Depth is good for team pursuit and that’s all. Nobody’s getting away this year because everyone’s expecting it and no team is strong enough to get away. People talking BKB depth over exaggerate X’s ability and his teammates haven’t proved they can even somewhat hang with him, Cutters fans forget Coulter cant even hold a top 10 ITTers wheel in a 1 lap burn and their team is too scared to do TP because theyll get embarrassed like 17. GG fans don’t seem to understand that watt/kg ratio doesn’t mean shit on the track (just ask Abel), and the Greek crowd is placing their chips on Sig Ep who lost their best rider in Charlie and saying Ben Harris is a Bo Jackson level 2 sport athlete with cycling and binge drinking. No team has depth to get away. Going to be a Cutters, BKB, Ep, and Beta sprint and who wins is a flip of a coin

      • “Ben Harris is a Bo Jackson level 2 sport athlete with cycling and binge drinking.“

That’s quite possibly the funniest thing I’ve ever read.

      • I’m glad I was lost only at the very end of your comment with “Beta” because the first 99% of your message is spot on

  22. People out here really sleeping on Jetblach…don’t underestimate a Bishop team ever. Top 3 Independent team on raceday, mark my words

    • 5-8 teams will contend, no one here knows who will win. No one picked delts in 16, BKB was a pretty solid pick for 17 though, and no one picked Cutters in 2018, especially to win quals. There’s a top 8 teams. Any one of them can win.

      • This is such shit. Nobody was counting delts out in a sprint in 16. The question was if they could get there, which they clearly did. Same thing with Cutters last year, just with a much better team than 16 delts. Everyone was just expecting BKB or Sig Ep to try get away again. Noble was 2nd in MNO and probably would’ve won if he had even raced a little bit smart against Charlie. There’s still only 4 real contenders. In any order of Cutters, Gray Goat, BKB, and Sig Ep.

  23. Rumor has it that Xavier pulled 20+ laps of the women’s tempo pack drill AND won the sprint off the front. An early February flex on the rest of the field. Though rookie week races do not count for anything tangible, X has shown that he is on form and will show no mercy come April. Watch out boys- he’s not just a fall ITTer anymore.

    XOXO Gossip Girl

  24. Huge shoutout to the Little 500 teams that realized they aren’t too good for IUCC and did well at Auburn this weekend! Several notable teams missing for guys and girls…enjoy your intramural bike race instead of helping to actually grow cycling at Indiana University. You know who you are…

    • This is quite frankly, hilarious. Let people do what they want to do, little 5 is far more important than club cycling to 99% of the riders on campus. The best riders including Settle and Guyon don’t participate in a mediocre collegiate cycling race where everyone podiums because the competition is straight ass. But hey good job GG and all the other teams no one cares about. Keep killing it on the road so when you lose little 5 you can pat each other on the back for getting 2nd in a C’s race!!!

      • That’s funny, you really contradict yourself when you say 99% of riders stand with you but then try to shit on 99% of riders like they’re irrelevant if they’re not Cutters.

If you’re looking for a Cutters circle jerk I’m sure you can just ask! If they say no, I’ll make you a GoFundMe for a bottle of Jergens and some tissues with a remastered Breaking Away DVD.

    • Wasting an entire weekend in Alabama with midterms coming up sounds like a recipe for little 5 academic ineligibility…

    • Definitely. IUCC would be bigger if it wasn’t for Little 5. We have the best roads in Indiana the only reason the club is only a club and not a team is because so many people are more focused on L5 than road racing.

  25. 1a. Caitlin Kamplain TPA – Seems to have the biggest engine in the women’s field and strong overall rider. Can see her doing up to 80 laps if needed. Fitter than most of the men’s field. Only Coppens can challenge her for track supremacy this spring. Don’t sleep on CK + CB
1b. Hanna Coppens DG – Best pop, very fit, very experienced. She would’ve been the best woman in the race last year if it weren’t for 2 generational talents in Hannon and Brown. She’s been around racing enough to know when and how to strike. Makes DG an early favorite.
    3. Ivy Moore SKI – SKI looks poised to come into spring as the deepest team 1-4. Ivy may not quite be on the same level as Kamplain or Coppens, but she’s a clear #3 in the field. #2 at Fall ITTs and a strong supporting cast makes her and SKI dangerous at ITTs and team pursuit.
    4. Erika Arakawa Theta – Fall ITTs shows she’s going to be a problem for the field this year. For those of you ready to count the Theta dynasty over prematurely, think again. The 2nd year jump + Knapp effect makes her a good bet for MNO finals and top 5 ITT.
    5. Emily Carrico SKI – Another strong woman hailing from SKI. Experience- check. Race smarts- check. Strong pop- check. Emily is checking all the boxes. Together, her and Ivy may form the smartest 1-2 pair in the field and having a coach like Kirkham in the pit can’t be underestimated.
    6. Emily Heldman Phi Mu – Delivered a strong Fall ITT after a top 15 ITT last spring. Heldman may be the most slept on rider this year. Wouldn’t be surprised if she ended up as a top 3 ITTer and pulls Phi Mu to a top 3 TP run.
    7. Katherine Free DG – I realize this is a hot take…but hear me out. Top 10 ITTer in the fall. Former IU cross country runner, and high school XC runner up for Indiana. This girl has TALENT. With Coppens providing strong leadership and developing the younger riders, I expect to see a big jump this year. A strong engine to get Coppens to the sprint is exactly what DG needs and exactly what Katherine may provide.
    8. Jackie Mooney AXO – Strong rider with GREAT pop. Didn’t race fall ITTs, but she can hang with anybody. 13th at ITTs last spring, but her real strength lies with her pop. Expecting a MNO finalist, possible winner if things go her way.
    9. Laura Watanabe Theta – Every year, Theta seems to have a reliable senior they can give the bike to and know they’ll do exactly what they need to do to put them in a position to win. I believe year is Watanabe’s turn to lead and get it done when it counts this spring.
    10. Evie Peterson Melanzana – Losing a generational talent like Brooke hurts. Having a rider like Evie to take her place doesn’t. Really surprised some people by finishing 3rd at Fall ITTs, but has clearly made a jump this year. I’ll be honest, I don’t know a ton about Evie but her strong fall performance warrants a top 10 ranking
