We’ve noticed everyone has taken a liking to talking about the race. So we’re giving you a place to do that, and just that.

Feel free to use this area to discuss anything and everything about the Little 500 — Qualifications, Spring Series, the race itself.

Please, no character attacks. Trash-talking is great, but slandering people isn’t. Let’s keep it clean. Or your post will be deleted.

  1. hats off the BKB for the strong performance last night and the gift of an obviously rigged MNO bracket that led to the white jersey, to bad you cant race seven dudes though, well see where depth goes on raceday with Lee and Craig on the wheels. They obviously lack race experience (besides Braucla), let alone even racing on bikes other then L5s (again besides Braucla). Looks like a frat fight this year.

    • WOW JUST WOW. My miracle son Brian did so well this weekend at MNO and Team Pursuit. I thought one of those mean frat boys was going to hurt my little Brian during the quarter finals, but he never gave up and prevailed!!!! GO CUTTERS!! GO BRIAN! In team pursuit, my son rode his precious heart out! He never gave up! GO CUTTERS!!!!!!!

      xoxo,
      Mrs. Depasse

    • Ali/Troll,
Hope the frats are having superb pre-race parties because their post-race parties are not going to be too fun.
I know hope is not a good strategy but ‘hope’fully you’re just trolling and not as dumb as your post indicates.

      • Hey Cheesedick Jonny,

Pull your head out of your ass. Jimmy Johns skated through the finish on account of someone who can’t finish a 60 minute crit crashed out the field. It would appear that being in first going into the final lap (narrowly avoiding the crash) is what the win should be attributed to. Let’s not discount the fact, also, that the race is won on the backstretch sprint of the final lap. To think that BKB’s sprinter wouldn’t have been eaten alive worse than a Turkey Tom with cheese is absolutely absurd. But let’s not argue over this, you’re a turd and you have no clue what you’re talking about.

p.s. Mrs. Depasse, the pound cake was lip-licking-delicious, and you know what I mean 😉

  2. PSA…. if you use the phrase squats make watts, you are a douche and subsequently suck at riding bikes. I can assure you, nobody cares about your leg workout.

  3. Shoutout to Chris Craig for causing yet again another wreck during track PRACTICE. Dude get a grip and handle your fucking bike.

  4. My son Brian has trained so hard this entire year!! I’m so proud of his hard work and courageous spirit!!! He told me not to tell anyone but the Cutters have a secret strategy for raceday!!! I promised not to tell, so GO CUTTERS!!!!!!!! GO BRIAN!!

  5. Hey Roberto, can you upload the pit & jersey guide? Need to know what tri-color Beta Theta will be wearing on race day.

    Race winners….. TETER and WRIGHT

    Mark it 8, dude.

  6. The only way pdt will win is if Ron Lee has a good day and can sprint past the beta bros in the final laps. BKB won’t be around late in the race.

      • AJ has really improved. And beta has the best 1,2 punch in the game. Never count beta out. Joe is also improving, from what my inside sources are saying. BKB isn’t mentally prepared, seeing half the teams at Roy’s during the week doesn’t scream champions to me.

    • Looking ahead to 2016….With what I think I know…..I see 5 or 6 teams that will either be super strong and/or have at least one top level sprinter returning:
BKB – Reloads with at least 6 strong riders but perhaps no sprinter
      Beta – Knight and Laughlin
      Delts – Tormoehlen and Vincino)
      SAE – 2 X Krahulik – All 4 riders return
      Cutters – Thiery
      Phi Delts – Rob Lee

      • Some amazing foresight went into this comment! This is one hell of a prediction a full year behind. I wish there was more content like this nowadays, but one can only wish.

  7. I believe these were all of the winners on the men’s side:

    All Star Riders:
Nick Torrance – Sigma Phi Epsilon
Spencer Brauchla – Black Key Bulls
Chris Craig – Beta Theta Pi
Andrew Krahulik – Sigma Alpha Epsilon
    Austin Portolese – Forest
Luke Momper – Delta Tau Delta
    Nick Thiery – Cutters
Rob Lee – Phi Delta Theta

    Rookie of the Year Riders:
Charlie Hicks – Sigma Phi Epsilon
Tyler Hart – Black Key Bulls
Joe Krahulik – Sigma Alpha Epsilon
    Reid Wilson – 3PH

  8. Anyone know when the race will show up on youtube?
I’m running out of netflix and want to watch the debut of GoNapp in the booth

    • It was supposed to be up last week but that hasn’t worked out yet. I’m hopeful for this week. Really looking forward to watching Ron showboat and then get popped

  9. Since we last spoke… its been a long day… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgKAFK5djSk
My son Brian and his lovely friends fought and pedaled so hard in the Little 500. Those mean fraternity boys should not have won 😦 can’t wait until next year when the Cutters soar like eagles!! GO CUTTERS!!!!!!! Until next time..

    XOXOXOXOXO,
    Mrs. Depasse

    • You can’t tell with the helmets, but Snu is also rocking Theta’s headbands in that picture.

Also golf clap for creating an Instagram account for the sake of commenting here

  10. We are officially inside of 80 days until the 2016 Little 500! Time for some long odds. Here are the official picks. Take them to Vegas or just have a lively discussion about them on 33to1.

    Women’s Race
Odds, Team, 2015 Race, Returning Riders, 2015 Team Pursuit

    1/5 Phoenix (2)—Sherwood, Brand, Bull, Butler [4]
Tabitha comes in as the dominating rider in the women’s field. With the race being only 100 laps, it’s much easier in the women’s race for a single rider to do the majority of laps and still contend in the sprint. This is Tabitha’s last go around, so she has to be hungry.

1/2 Kappa Alpha Theta (1)—Malcomb, Rogers, Lambert, Brown [3]
With last year’s win, Kappa Alpha Theta surpassed Kappa Kappa Gamma to become the lone leader in Little 500 wins category. Liz Lieberman dominated for the Theta’s through the spring and was in the right position to avoid the lap 199 wreck. The Theta’s have a very good shot at a 3-peat.

    4/5 Ski (4)—Huibregste, Moore, King, Williams [1]
As an upstart team, Ski has never finished outside of the top ten the last two years. They tend to take a high volume approach in training compared to other teams, which led them to a convincing first place finish in team pursuit. They add freshman Ivey Moore, who could turn out to be their fastest rider come April.

7/5 Alpha Omicron Pi (5)—Ranft, Oppel, Dukeman, Healey [5]
This current roster has found success posting a top ten finish last year. They continued to build fitness over the summer and came out with a strong showing in the fall Little 500 races.

9/5 Delta Gamma (5)—Bignal, Rvich, Ziegler, Borgmann [8]
After the departure of Doogs, the DG’s saw a bit of a slide in performance. The fresh crop of riders has shown steady improvement. This is a very veteran group that could cause an upset.

3/1 Alpha Chi Omega (9)—Kolar, Becker, Ellis, Striebel [2]
Alpha Chi Omega has been the pillar of consistency the last four years with four top-10 finishes. They have never been able to quite put it all together to finish atop the standings.

    4/1 Cru (3)—Mailey, Newell, Pedersen, Britske [10]
Cru hung tough and was there at the end last year with the leaders before being taken out on the lap 199 crash.

    15/1 The Field

    Men’s Race
Odds, Team, 2015 Race, Returning Riders, 2015 Team Pursuit

    1/5 BKB (2)—Brauchla, Kalbfell, Hartman, Hammon [1]
The BKB’s have the best finish percentage over the last three years. After a dominating Team Pursuit performance and second place race finish last year, they return three out of four riders to their race day team. They are very versatile in that they could easily blow the field apart with their depth or use Brauchla in the finish (“BRAUCHLA, BRAUCHLA, BRAUCHLA”).

    1/2 SAE (4)—Krahulik, Krahulik, Sasseman, Hartmeister [4]
SAE certainly made laps 50-100 exciting to watch last year as they gained nearly three quarter of a lap on the field before the pack reeled them in. With four returning riders including the Krahulik brothers and Corleones champion, Dan Burns, in the pit, these guys will be hard to beat. Andy proved that they could ride away from the field with ease in last year’s race and this past summer he worked hard on his top end speed at MTV.

4/5 Sig Ep (1)—Hicks, Anderson, Turi, Gavette [7]
The SigEps were able to battle from being a half a lap down to cross the line first in the six-up sprint last year. They return three out of four, but will be missing their top rider in Torrance. Yellow is always a serious contender.

    7/5 Delts (6)—Tormoehlen, Vicino, Warstler, Clayton [2]
Never count out a Bishop-coached team. He will have the Delts well-trained come April. Courtney knows how to be with the leaders at the end of the race.

    9/5 Beta (3)—Knight, Laughlin, Sood, Hyndman [6]
Even with the departure of All Star rider Chris Craig, the Beta’s are not phased. Since their 2013 victory, their riders and alumni have the puzzle of success figured out. Knight can easily take over the top rider duties. If they didn’t burn so many matches catching back up to the leaders after their crash, last year’s race could have ended very differently.

    3/1 Cutters (7)—Thiery, Kuhn, Pilipiszyn, Schwedland [8]
“The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” Can the Cutters finally overcome the curse of Eric Young? They are led solely by Thiery this year, but how much confidence can he inspire after sitting up on lap 200 of last year’s race?

    4/1 3PH (8)—Werner, Wilson, Duke, Thompson [16]
This is a great upstart team. It’s very hard to find success as a first year team, but the 3PH boys were able to do so last year. With a couple of tweaks, they can certainly be a threat come April 16th.

7/1 Phi Delta Theta (10)—Lee, Romenesko, Spencer, Ahern [5]
After the one of the most consistent runs of podium finishes ever, the Phi Delts fell off the lead pace in last year’s race hard. A very veteran group returns to round out the top eight picks.

    20/1 The Field

  11. Sig Ep is weak. Didn’t pull at all in the race, and were able to use that in the sprint with a 4 year rider. They don’t have a sprinter now. They aren’t a threat.

  12. Eggplant Emoji Rankings:

Cutters – 6 legendary eggplant emojis – Theiry sub 2:20 ITT. Likely will win sprint. Cutter tradition still means a lot. Will win 2 of the next 3 races.

Beta – 4.65 royal eggplant . Knight is legit. Anderson still probably trying to ride this year.

BKB – 4.25 chode eggplants – Deep, no individual great rider. Lucky past two years. Due for an off year

Delts – 3.7 rotten eggplants – Likely cheating. Will be there in the end and shed the most tears.

    SAE – 3 purpule eggplants – Krahuliuks don’t shower.

Sig ep – 2.8 pompous egglplants – Likely to crash someone out this year. Deep but no star.

Phoenix – 2 confused eggplants – could finish in the top ten of men’s race. Will lap women’s field.

*Please note – one rider can count for multiple eggplant emoji. For instance, Nick Thiery = roughly 3 eggplant emojis because he’s badass and fast.

    • My esteemed colleague, @eggplantemoji, I would like to raise a couple of facts that run contrary to your argument. Despite winning ITT’s last year, I disagree with the fact that Theiry is the fastest rider. Spring series results mean nothing if you can’t back it up in the race. Let’s go to the video tape:

      Lap 199 Turn 3 (2:25:00), Theiry is positioned 4th
      Lap 199 Start/Finish Line (2:25:23), Theiry is positioned 4th
      Lap 200 Turn 1 (2:25:26), Theiry is positioned 5th
      Lap 200 Turn 2 (2:25:36), Theiry is positioned 7th
Lap 200 Finish Line (2:25:55), Where’s Nick Theiry?

A 39 second lap on the 200th lap of the race to finish 7th in a 7-up sprint does not make it very likely that he will win if that scenario is repeated in 2016. At best, out of the group that finished ahead of him, since two have graduated, he moves up two spots to 5th.

      Andy FTW.

      • Gotta consider Theiry had just done a ton of work to get Cutters back from a late wreck and was leading the pack for much of the final laps.

Not saying he wins the sprint, but give #1 ITT some credit

    • would love for you to let me know how cutter “tradition” will win them a race. They won in the past because of outstanding riders (Young, Feldman, Land, Bishop, etc.) None of the elite teams in the field are even slightly afraid of the Cutters anymore. Because of their depth BKB you and others discount the elite riders on BKB. Their combination of elite riders and depth makes this their race to win/lose in my opinion. They might not win in a sprint, but they could pull off a late race move like the cheating Delts did last year

  13. @eggplant, my video simply provides facts to my counter argument.

The only thing that I can gather from your video is that I am as cool as Sean Connery and Nick Theiry is a girl.

  14. You left Teter out of the top teams for the women! I’d put them as a solid 4th place team right now based on the past results from last year but they are going to win the race come April. Tabitha will be beaten mentally before she even gets on the track. Too much pressure for her is never a good thing.

For the men, Nick Thierry is a wildcard along with Kyle Knight. Last year was a weird race with PDT getting dropped and Thiery getting dropped hard on the last lap. I wish I knew what happened to those 2 who were the top 2 riders in the race along with Craig. Sig Ep also crashed last year so Thierry can’t be totally left off the hook, but he was not well rested for the finish or was just not having a good day.
My guess is that Thierry used up all his energy chasing and then broke mentally once he realized he wasn’t going to win. Phi Delts seemed to just have poor coaching or racing skills with their top rider racing foolishly at times. SAE is a major threat but teams now are expecting it. My guess is that they will use a strategy in the form of a late race attack similar to Delts with 20 to go. The field won’t let them flirt with another 3/4 lap lead before closing the gap. This strategy will help other deep teams like BKB.

BKB seems to me by far the best bet for odds makers and Nick Hartman was blowing up the track in the fall. Bracula is also a major threat on the last lap. Sleeper teams last year like Wright won’t be a factor as they lost basically everyone from last year except 1 guy in the top 35 at ITT’s. I think Forest lost their best riders as well.

  15. They also beat the 1st and 2nd place race finishing teams in Team Pursuit last year with only 3 girls and return their strongest girl. Eliza was 14th in ITT’s last year and is a good IUCC rider. Kluesner (a track star) is on another level. Plus they have a solid rookie to take a 4th spot this year, Teter will win. 3 seniors. Teams are not going to want to face Kluesner at the finish. I feel bad for Tabitha. It was supposed to be her year finally.

  16. Go home Woj, Teter won’t be contenders in anything this year except faciest team. Look for Heath and Thomas to have the best legs and ass duo on the track.

Expecting a strong performance from AOPi led by Michaela Ranft, those girls proved in cyclocross they’re hungry for a victory and got a taste of what it’s like to be there at the end in last year’s race.

DG returns an all star cast that could get lucky if the race ends in a bunch sprint. Bignal has the legs of a workhorse, but we’ll have to see how she fairs after a semester abroad.

With three returning riders and two back to back victories, Theta is the team to beat this spring. It will be interesting to see if they use Rogers or Malcom for the sprint

  17. Teter has a team this year? I thought they were going to fold.

Interesting Woj decision. Not sure you are going to find a coach that puts more time effort into the program than Woj. As I’m not familiar with their situation, I won’t comment. Just kidding, I will. That was dumb move. Seems like short term “quick fix” for a bigger problem.

    • @poopydaiper/woj,

Stop posting about yourself and trying to make the conversation all about you. Teter has moved on, you need to too.

  18. The above “Emma Caughlin” was not actually Emma. Please do not bring me into this. I respect Woj and I don’t appreciate you posing as me on this blog.

  19. Pick the one in the middle! I had a blast coaching Teter all those years. They are a very strong team this year and I wish them the best.

  20. I am officially announcing my candidacy to take over as race director next year. IUSF needs me. Little 500 needs me. Above all else, Greek life needs me. Frats don’t win anymore. It’s the geeds—they’re everywhere. We can’t trust them. They’re infiltrating our stadium in their cargo shorts with their American Eagle rope belts and neon polos and Jesus sandals. Somehow these lightweight losers, who spend their weekends getting sloshed off of two Mike’s Hard Lemonades while playing Scrabble and watching HGTV, manage to beat out the frat champs that built this race into the winning celebration of Greek glory that it is today. We can’t have BKBs and Cutters beating Betas and Delts and SAEs. It’s unpatriotic. America can’t let China beat it, and these geeds are the China of Little 5.

We need to make frats great again. That’s why, when I’m race director, the first thing I will do is build a wall around Bill Armstrong Stadium to keep the geeds out. And I’m going to force them to build it. I’m a very persuasive guy. I’ve got a great relationship with the geeds. And that’s how I know I can get them to stop their Ultimate Frisbee games and start laying bricks for me in their New Balance tennis shoes and outdated high school cut-off t-shirts. And then, once we have a wall—a yuuugge wall, one big enough to be seen from the end of the Extension to 3rd Street—then we can start to rebuild the chaos left behind by liberal dummy Jordan “Hussein” Bailey. #MakeLittle5GreatAgain #TrumpTrain

      Sincerely,

      Facts Only

      • Facts Only,

I’m Donald Trump. This is politics. I don’t know where you’re getting this data from but as far as I can see “facts” don’t matter here. I make the facts because I have the best words and I say that geeds are winning when they shouldn’t be.

When I’m president you’ll be banned along with the rest of the geeds (and anyone who dares to say I have small hands or is anything other than a white male). We will also be eliminating the women’s race and replacing it with a pageant, only instead of bikinis the women will wear bike shorts during the swimsuit portion.

        #TrumpTrain
