Discussion Room

We’ve noticed everyone has taken a liking to talking about the race. So we’re giving you a place to do that, and just that.

Feel free to use this area to discuss anything and everything about the Little 500 — Qualifications, Spring Series, the race itself.

Please, no character attacks. Trash-talking is great, but slandering people isn’t. Let’s keep it clean. Or your post will be deleted.

  1. So which good Little 5 fraternities have not been kicked off campus over the last 15 years? Fiji and Phi Delts? And stop hazing each other. It’s a major sign of insecurity!!!! How has Sigma Nu made it this long?

  2. With a team that is presumably 1 rider away, doesn’t the Delts ruling now open up that team to have its pick of the litter, from campus independents. But Luke T. Rode about 150 laps last year anyway. Their 3 return rider were not that good?

  3. I’ll bet $200 delts ends up racing under a different team name. Anyone who says differently is a delts troll, saying so they can “fly under the radar”. Not that it matters…this race is a Cutters-BKB showdown anyway

    • 1) Cutters and BKB ain’t shit.
      2) Delts are on lead lap every year.
      3) Abel is the GOAT
      4) Kalbfel is riding as a Goat.
      5) Krahulik doesn’t care about you
      6) Alumni status so this is all irrelevant

  4. With Phoenix gone who’s looking to be the favorite this year for the women’s race? With Megan Huibregtse returning and a new coach it’s hard not to have Ski as a race day favorite. Also, did any sororities hand out some biker bids last night?

  5. Ski and Melanzana, good athletes, a complete waste of talent due to not understanding the race every year. Ride Hard, turn left, and lose, every year. Don’t blame underachievement on coaches ladies it is on you to figure it out. Otherwise you will just be recycling coaches year-in year-out.

  6. Ummm, well uh, I hate to break it to you but long term failure can very well be attributed to poor coaching. Short term failure can be riders, coaching mistake, or bad luck. It also depends on the role of the coach in terms of developing them into reaching their athletic potential in the first place.

  7. If that was true, then that would mean Bishop would be coaching Teter I just don’t see that. But if it were true that would make them an instant contender.

    • Are you saying Teter isn’t a contender already and then by fact saying Bishop being the coach makes them a contender as well. Does that mean you’re inferring that if Delts rides a team with Bishop coaching they are instant contenders?

  8. Courtney’s a genius because he plays the same strategy every year and is predictable. But what’s worse is that the rest of the pack doesn’t so shit about it and let them sit in race after race

  9. Point 1. Stupid to consider Delts/??? this year they are a non-factor. This is a BKB/Cutter/3PH battle all the way.
Point 2. People are totally overlooking DChi this year
Point 3. No body enjoys shit talking Courtney more than I (Trust me), 2 championships in 5 years and always there (until this year) is an accident or stupidity.
Point 4. Ski will win the womens this year

  10. Oh Jesus, and NonJesus,
We were next to DTD in the pits last year. All due respect, if there were 4 Poodles on Little 5 bikes with that same race day set up, I would pay attention. That set up is legit, actually learned alot. Stop talking and beat them or not, but Delts or whatever they are calling themselves will be a factor on raceday. They will be in the race.

  12. Blatantly Copied and Updated …

Courtney Bishop Team/Jet Blac (née Delts) – With three seasoned riders returning to the tutelage of Coach Bishop the still officially unnamed new team will be a favorite in 2017. Will one be able to step it up and become a race closer or will they have to try and win another way? (“Blac” sounds cool – “Blach” is the sound of a dog vomiting on the carpet before you can get the door open and sush them outside.

SAE – Krahulik IS the strongest rider returning in 2017 but he is also SAE’s only returning race rider. In contrast to the Jet Blac, SAE must develop three, or at least two, riders strong enough to deliver Krahulik to the end of the race.

BKB – Losing two top riders to graduation hurts BKB less than any other team. Hammon and Martinez will be among the fastest riders at the track next year and BKB will field the top all around team. Martinez will challenge Krahulik next year assuming he experiences the usual improvement following his rookie Little 500.

Cutters – Schwedland and Thiery return and only need one average-to-good teammate to win. Cutters and BKB will have the best one-two punches next year. Schwedland will improve following his rookie race and Thiery, like Sig Ep’s 2015 sprinter Torrance, may finally capitalize on his talent.

Sig Ep – Returning all four riders. They are strong across the board and ought to make to the last few laps. But, will they have a rider improve enough to hang with the leaders over the last few laps?

Mother Bears (née Wright) – Figg showed a lot of promise in MnO but will Wright have a team to support him next year?

3PH, Gray Goat and Sigma Nu – Probably strong enough to make it the end but can they stand the last 10 laps?

  13. I think it will come down to BlackKey Bulls and Cutters, but don’t sleep on whoever Courtney is coaching. Sneaky good in crunch time. SAE could be there at the end if they make it to lap 150 with the lead group. I don’t know enough about 3ph to comment but their past results while hard to put them in the final group even if everyone comes back because they were essentially a lap down last year at the end. A lot to overcome. So hard to make it to the last lap in the lead group every year, Cutters and delts seem like they are the only ones that have been able to pull that off for almost a decade. Not an accident in either case. Best little five coaching systems. My opinion.

Women’s race will come down to coaching which means everyone is out except Kappa Alpha Theta and DG. Sounds like a lot of teams think they will win with new coaches. Sorry ladies not going to happen. Remember this if you have a rookie coach in the girls race all you will see are his or her eyes wide open at not knowing what to do because the race is going by so fast. If you think you are going to win with a rookie coach on the girls side, you are wasting your time dreaming, not even possible. Girls back on thisp

    • 3-4 rookie coaches have won the women’s race in the past dozen or so years. You’re telling me there’s a 25% chance? Ski and DG will battle for the win. Theta will be there. Bignal is the fav.

  14. WB, you are a very clueless Kool-Aid Drinker if you think Black Key Bulls have been on the lead lap in all of their 11 appearances in the little 500. That must be the propaganda they’re feeding their rookies to get numbers. Here’s the real, it is that kind of rhetoric why most would make the argument that BKB is always a cluster of dysfunction on race day. Great arrogant rant by your coach pre-race in the 2016 race video by the way. Classic you should be ashamed.

Truth is, bkb was off the lead lap in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 they were 12 seconds back only a loser would argue that’s being on the lead lap.

So of their 11 appearances in my book they’ve only been on the lead lap 5 times. And has been smoked in every Sprint they’ve been involved with. 2007, smoked no chance. 2009 smoked no chance. 2015 smoked no chance. 2016 smoked no chance. And the coup de gras, even their “win” in 2014 was a complete fluke with the field getting crashed the only thing they were set to do was finish seventh, there is a luck Factor. So hang your hat on that “victory” and just know that everyone puts an Asterix next to it in the book. You want to talk, know what you’re talking about.

The simple reality of it is that bkb has never dictated the outcome of a little 500 race. And THAT is the mark of a champion. Until that happens stop talking about BKB, they are not one of the great teams in little 500. Posers.

Now go drink some more Kool-Aid. Mic, and drop!

      • I believe BKB affected the race outcome for Cutters last year, did they not? By Hartman destroying Logan when he was trying to burn it took Cuttersvout of the race. So either you’re wrong about that point, or you just never believed Cutters could win the sprint. Curious to see which you choose.

  15. BKB was a lap back 4 out of 11 races. 5 times they were better than 14 seconds behind. 2 of those 5 they finished more than a second or 2 back. They contested the sprint 3 times out of 11. 1 of those was uncontested under a yellow flag. In another they were boxed in and couldn’t contest. Average placing is 5th.

  16. Bag, 2015 bkb Sprinter did nothing to dictate the outcome of that race, followed, not initiated. And had so little sack, that the following year did not even think about sprinting. True sprinters are killers, assassins, Mercenaries. Nothing keeps a true Sprinter off the bike at the end of a race. Obviously you are not a sprinter. True sprinters want the checkered flag. Poser! That’s your argument for bkb? Sad

  17. Switzerland, what do I think? What do I think? I think you don’t have a clue, Hartman did nothing to destroy anyone, Logan was simply dead on the bike and should have been taken off four laps earlier. And Hartman did nothing, again nothing to affect the outcome of the win. Get it “the win”? That is truly telling that you’re looking behind you in a race and not concerned about what’s going on in front. You must be hanging out with Val. Remember dictate the outcome of the win. Do you understand now or shall I put that out to you in Portuguese?

Rondee you’re a true idiot that has no idea what a champion even looks like. Let alone how one acts”

WB, your the idiot making wildly inaccurate statements. Listening to rant about the characteristics of a champion, are as ridiculous as listening to cockroach give a dissertation on interstellar travel.

Run and tell BKB, we’ll meet them at Thermopolis, in April!

    • Rondo was instrumental in our ’08 Championship run. His playmaking ability on both sides of the ball pushed our team past perceived limits. Jimmy and D-Wade have created the leadership problem in Chicago, and I’ll always consider Rajon a son. Because let’s be honest my other sons are headcases as well. Just my take, but Rondo’s a champ and he’ll always be a champ.

  19. No one wants to change it, if it got changed there wouldn’t be no one to make fun of little 500 weekend at Nicks. What would really be cool is it all the bkb riders with rings just served all other past champions their beverages. That would be Justice. There’s a rumor going around that they never actually got Rings they got a set of steak knives is that true?

    • Rondo,
33to1.com was made to be a fun place to discuss what we love, the Little 500. Whether you agree or not, BKB won in 2014. They trained hard and crossed the line first. Please show respect to them as well as all participants and finishers of the race or please do not return to this chat room. Thank you for your cooperation.

      33to1 Administration

      • Simply shocked that there is trolling on the web. So, which Cutter will win ITTs this year? Think Thiery will let Scwheddy beat him this year like he let Luke T. and Joe K. last year?

      • Lmao @bkb wishing the admins would delete posts about their weak raceday appearances//aka discussing what this blog is about

  20. What have you done for me lately?

BKB has had the highest average finish since 2013. That can’t be built overnight. They created something out of nothing and now have positioned the program to the point that it doesn’t ebb and flow year in and year out, but rather remains a contending team every year. Very few teams are in this position.

Despite having the most successful rider in Little 500 in this century, the Cutters still rank second to Delts/TMT going back to 2007. CB too built something from nothing and has the best track record in the last ten years. Love him or hate him, his system works and delivers his teams to lap 200 consistently.

This is the worst generation of riders in Cutters history. Up until last year, the team had won once every four years since it was established as a team. Their recent record:
2016–Logan bonks doing 38 second laps, exchanges otb effectively putting them out of contention.
2015–Thiery crosses the line at lap 199 in 3rd place, midway through lap 200 he gives up and finishes 7th, 10 second behind the bunch.
    2014–Decrash 2
    2013–Sam is dropped otb.
    2012–Dacrash 1
Cutters didn’t build something out of nothing. The team is DX in drag. As the adage goes: the first generation creates the wealth, the second generation holds onto it, and the third generation squanders it. The Cutters are in its third generation.

No matter how hard you try, can’t ban the Delts or CB from the race. Smart money is on CB.

  21. You did a great job cherry picking timeframes that fit your story. Winning the race is the #1 indicator of success and since 2007 Cutters have won 5 times and Delts 2. If average finish is so important maybe series events should be counted as equally important? Nice stat but not as important. Crashing can be streaky and can affect any team especially Delts who sits in the middle of the pack. You should check and see how many times TMT crashed over the years. Their luck will change on a dime. Delts has nobody to compete for a win this year so the past is the past. BKB has weak sprinting. BKB will finish 3rd or 4th. Delts will be lucky to be top 12.

    • No one cares if they get 10th or 11th. The only positive BKB has over last year is having Knapp in the pit and making sure Hartman is no where near it.

    • IF CB weren’t coaching they would likely have 0 victories. Everyone respects CB in Bloomington these days. That wasn’t the case in 2007.

  22. Can’t name 1 rider on Delts, but pretty sure you can call them Defending Champions 1,2,&3.
    “The Ghost Crew”

Keep adding feel to Cutters, love it: “The crew that got dirt on the flag”

BKB, disrespected: “The Black & Boooo, nobody (except the administrator) likes you Crew)

    3PH: “We’ll, they haven’t got a mention crew”

No mention of series events, irrelevant. Delts finished 16th in TP, and averaged 50+ in ITTS, that’s hard to make sense of.

    Grey Goat,DX, darkhorses.

  23. CB doesn’t ride in the race, but apparently has a knack for getting guys you can’t ride to the podium. That’s hard to do. I certainly don’t know every race but I would be curious to know when the last time 3 rookies were race winners? It will be interesting to see how they respond, very interesting indeed two freshmen and a sophomore from last year? Were they sitting around resting on their accomplishments or training to defend?

    • ……. hahahaha, you could go back 15 years and pick an All-Star team of 4 cutters, that would be a great debate with much diversity. But one thing you could guarantee is that no one from the past four years of cutters would be on that team, wouldn’t even be considered. Sorry Eric sorry Nick. Cutters has no little brothers maybe a second cousin twice removed, or a house dog at best

    • Tom Crean claimed the same thing after beating Kentucky in 2011 😂. Six years later, still waiting on a National Champiomship.

Cutters are going to have to race two first-year riders. Good luck with that.

      • @Cutty Fan, delts had Tormoehlen The Tormented. Who does cutters have that is gonna be able to make a move like that? Thiery that bonked on lap 199 in ’15 and wasn’t selevted to finish in ’16 or Eric, a 2:24 ITTer?

Will they make it to the lead lap? Sure. Can they win a sprint at the end? Unlikely. Do they have enough depth to breakaway from other teams? Also unlikely.

    • As a RC, one rookie cutter kid is okay but has a poor attitude and will get burnt. The other rookie has no chance, can barely jump on a bike

  24. Tom Crean doesn’t have my thighs baby!!!

      • Well I am sure that for some reason the admin will leave that up. Delts program has come full circle, since 08 through endless hours of training and preparation. To the extent that most other teams would find it crazy how much they prepare and train for race day. You want to beat them, train harder, smarter, and prepare more, not likely. Don’t talk crap on a forum. I will be on the fence proudly this year Watching The Fruits of preparation. Where will you be?

      • If Delts are so strong, why do they never pull? That strategy seems to contradict how hard they allegedly train. It also may be hard to bear fruit this year when they got kicked out of the “wattage cottage.” Glad the ladies of Alpha Sigma Kappa will be able to utilize it though.

      • @re: delts09

Stay on top of the game haha, that’s not the sorority in the house hahaha. Word on the street is Delts still train in house so nice post.
