Feel free to use this area to discuss anything and everything about the Little 500 — Qualifications, Spring Series, the race itself.

Please, no character attacks. Trash-talking is great, but slandering people isn’t. Let’s keep it clean. Or your post will be deleted.

  1. @Are The Best, I have many a dying wish but now my wish has changed. I only want you to introduce yourself to Courtney, and please let me know so I can be there to film it.Please? and my Finance professor recommends that if you have already booked your victory dinner for Cutters at Gratzi, perhaps you might hedge your bet and downgrade to, maybe a White Castle. You’ll thank me later

      • The Man is a Beta, give him a break! I think the point is he does not believe that Cutters will win. We’ll know in April.

  2. Can anybody comment on how Joe Krahulik looks this year? Hearing from multiple sources that he hasn’t been training that hard this year without his brother. Any idea what his team mates are like?

    • There are a few things here that don’t need speculation:
      1. Joe has worse teammates this year than he did last year.
      2. He is absolutely not gonna be as good this year.
I still think he is gonna be top 5 in itts on talent alone, but it is absolutely true that his brother was the driving force behind the team. I know for a fact that Andy made all the workouts and the overall training plan. Without Andy, Joe is seriously lacking training structure and any semblance of a competitor.
The team is not as close as they were last year, evidence by the fact that their other two returners quit the team. I’m not positive, but I’ve heard from enough people to believe it, that it was not a clean separation.
Most importantly though, SAE is not a factor on race day. Poor coaching and bad decision making on the rider’s part will keep them from contending once again. If Joe couldn’t get it done last year, why does anyone think he can do it this year with an objectively worse team under worse leadership?

BKB or Cutters. End of discussion

      • @overrated
The only overrated thing about this comment is your opinions. Keep feeding yourself bull though, Joe loves it. The kid is fit, and understands track racing better than mostly everyone out there. I would be scared if I were you.

      • I think its hilarious u kids talking about krahulik. u wouldnt say this stuff to him at MnO, hes jacked. not only that but he wears the freshest clothes, eats at the chillest restaurants and hangs out with the hottest dudes.

      • yeah SAE sure is back alright, if you’re meaning laying on their back cause they cant stop wrecking and will be on their backs come race day gasping for air.

  3. @OVERRATED
Won’t be Cutters or BKB or SAE, What is better about those teams from a year ago? They are All worse, and who in Gods name will close for BKB or Cutters, nobody thats who. #THESONGREMAINSTHESAME
….only one team is built to win this year, figure it out.

  4. Might not know your Brother, but I know the big boys stretching out this years SAE kits wont make 2 x 10 lap sets in this years race, if they are riding anything south of 41 seconds. Cant ride 130 laps and sprint.

  5. @OVERRATED. You are correct! Cutters and BKB, to lessen the hate towards their continual winning ways, decided to let Krahulik and Luke T. have the ITTs and MnO last year. Krahulik then clearly benefited from a swirling tailwind when he won. He does not know how to train as evidenced by his lack of Cat 4 and 5 summer crit and road race results.

      • Lies! Rookies win the field sprint at least 10% of the time over the last couple decades in both races. Freshman rookies not so much.

      • No rookie is going to do anything in this year’s race, ridiculous. I am tired of hearing about Delts they are a complete non-factor , they will be squashed after lap 50 not to worry. That program has been the most overrated for years, if there’s one thing I would say it’s that Courtney is lucky, just lucky that’s all.

  6. That’s a name I have not heard, which translates do I doubt that will happen. My money is on Joe, then any host of black key Bulls, Cutters might people in there but that doesn’t make a difference they will suck on race day. The curse of Eric Young shall not lift until 2050. I predict that delts we’ll have two in the top 10, outside the top five in team Pursuit, but will still win the race.

  7. All these clowns coming on here making BS claims with zero facts associated with them. Laying down some cold hard truth right now.
    >FACT: Delts/Jet Blach lost Luke T and as of now, it’s not looking like they have a viable replacement. Rookie Zollman looks good based on all reports from RC but he can’t even win rookie MNO…how is he going to compete with experienced vets Krahulik, Theiry, Hammon, etc.
    >FACT: Cutters are back!- Returning 2 top 10 ITTers and incoming rookies that will rip your legs off. Reports from RW say one Cutters rookie consistently rode away from the field uncontested.
    >FACT: SAE is better than DTD last year– SAE has the rookies to keep Joe in contention. He will not need to ride 100+ laps to keep SAE in the race. This is a dangerous revelation for the rest of the men’s race.
    >FACT: People are discrediting the non-BKB, non-Cutters independent teams- Wright (Bears??), Gray Goat, 3PH are ALL looking strong. Gray Goat and 3PH are teams that have HUGE engines and will wear down the field, getting rid of the pack cancer that is DTD/ Jet Blach within 100 laps. Wright may have the most pure speed in the race between Figg and Caleb Langley (street sprints champion) and will be a threat if they stay with the leaders.
    >FACT: BKB once again will be lacking a sprinter. They will have the biggest matchbox on raceday, but won’t be able to burn enough of them when it matters. None of their returners are sprinters and based off reports from RW, this is their worst group of rookies in 10 years. Watch them fail to podium if the race is a final sprint like last year
    >FACT: Sig ep is nothing without Charlie Hicks. Hearing he won’t be racing this year. There done for the year. Deep team with no superstars now that Charlie is out.

    PREDICTIONS
    1. SAE
    2. Cutters
    3. Gray Goat
    4. Wright
    5. 3PH

    • you’re a clown. Being at a couple rookie practices I only saw the cutters kid pull away against week rookies, yes he is stronger than a majority of rookie field but never did anything exceptional. SAE is a team to watch out for but from rumors they don’t have much of a coach so saying hey they are better than Delts last year is misleading because Delts is coached by bishop, the dude could get four dogs on bikes to the end of a race. Also hitting the Delts/blach team again, maybe there freshman had no intent on competing in rookie week races or putting much effort in since if you look at the last year they didn’t do much till race day anyways. They like to stay under the radar till when it matters from what I’ve put together. I think gray goats have the edge on 3ph, 3 seniors who have raced three times already they’re gonna be prime. Biggest fact of this post is the BKB freshman, kinda crazy they picked those guys. But don’t count out Martinez, a year of riding does a lot and he was fall ITT champion. Sig Ep is rolling deep but from RC, they weren’t that deep on the track. Goodluck to all the teams out there.

    • Pretty sure the non-cutters/bkb geeds you mentioned all fell off the lead lap last year. Don’t sleep on Sig Ep. Even without Hicks they’ll have a deep team that could probably challenge bkb for best depth.

  8. Agreed if you think it’s anything other than Cutters, Delts, or BKB, you’re wasting your time. Best coach wins the race, so give the edge to Delts.# FactsOnly here’s a fact, no team ever drops Delts. It’s ridiculous to even try.

  9. @FACTSONLY, SAE rookies are simply too heavy to supply laps for Joe. They will be looking to the heavens for a combination of both help and oxygen by lap 110, and neither will be delivered, what will be delivered is Joe riding the back half of the race into an inevitable probability of getting lapped. That is a fact.

  10. Anyone able to publish a roster list?

So, Rookie Week lasted 2 weeks? Okay. Well, was there any sort of race to end the 2 weeks of Rookie Week? I see references to Rookie Week MNO results. Love to know what transpired with the young boys and girls races.

      • Congrats. Your good cyclists. Nobody gives a shit after you graduate. bkb is a bunch of dochebags who wish they were in a fraternity. Then maybe they could win the race without a crash if they could get a bid and ride for a fraternity

  11. Pterodactyl, someone from our team obviously pissed you off. I’ll be at the race this year from Thursday-Sunday morning. Name your place and time, I’d love to buy you a beer and discuss this, in person, not hiding behind anonymity. Little 5 is not about throwing stones, and this discussion board only fuels negative energy towards a bunch of 18-22 year old kids who are trying to have some fun outside of class doing something they love. I’m fucking tired of it.

    I prefer the Tap.

    • Jet-Blach at 3?

I was watching some of their workouts yesterday. Their 6 man pace line couldn’t ride 15 lap sets under 42 seconds. Don’t be ridiculous…

  12. That might be the dumbest comment ever posted on this board, @ActualRealist, Delts averaged 50th in individual time trials last year and still won. trying to figure how they will do trying to make some correlation based on how they ran a pace line 40 days before the race in sub-freezing temperature is simply asinine. I don’t have them for a win, but they are definitely top three. Factor in that, love him more hate him, Courtney knows exactly what he’s doing, I reserve the right to be wrong on them winning. No shame however, far smarter people have said the same thing in the past. Welcome to little 5.

    • I wasn’t commenting about Courtney, I commented about their paceline.

Are you sure you want to stick with me having the dumbest fucking comment on this thread?

Delts has 2 non-factors returning and their star is a rookie. When have 4 rookies won the race?

Never. Courtney can coach, but a team that could potentially be 4 rookies stack the odds against his favor because it’s never been done before. Get the fuck out

      • Well this comment just shows how fucking stupid are. “Delts has 2 non-factors returning and their star is a rookie. When have 4 rookies won the race?” A rookie is a first year rider you dip shit. Last year Delts rode 3 riders which now make them “veterans”… and if you didn’t know, those three rookies won the race with one veteran. So you can get the fuck out.

      • Who said their non-factors were guaranteed a spot on the race day squad? I said ***potentially*** 4 rookies. Do you know what potentially means?

Obviously you’re a fucking delt, only one of those cavemen wouldn’t know what potentially means.

Their standout is a rookie, who is slightly better than their non-factors. Have you been on the track with them? I have. Seems like you get all of your info from the fucking forum. Get a life, people are allowed to have different opinions than you dumb fuck.

      • You mad bro? Seems like your testosterone supplements are making you a little angry, watch out because I heard they are testing for PEDS and hormone supplements 😉 I would love to know who you are you keyboard warrior.

      • Bone Dry You took it to a personal insult level so don’t try to take the moral high ground. You’re the real keyboard warrior….
If you can’t handle somebody having a different opinion you should probably hop off the forums and the PEDs. It’s quite obvious you’re a delt so that’s probably something you’re into.

  13. The saddest aspect of the race this year is that we will again be denied an epic last lap duel for first between E.T. Phone Home Schwedland and Nick Fury Thiery. Certainly, if they were competing against each other they would lap the field at least once.

    • @Bone Dry Exactly! They would have treated us to an exhilarating 1-2 ending had they been on separate teams last year. Instead, we had to watch Delts, SAE and BKB limp to the checkered flag. It was not at all sporting of those three teams to leave Cutters behind at the end like they did.

      • SAE, Delts, and BKB limp to checkered? If I remember right that little sardine dick Luke rode the fastest lap of the race on his last lap in 30.XX something. Please give me some evidence that a single cutter is a quality sprinter. Looking at past years results and seeing how much Cutters/fans hate Delts and talk about how much they suck, Why have you not beat them since 2011?

  14. Following up on two SAE requests to IUSF: Will the interior padded safety wall around the track be completed in time? Also, how will IUSF implement the mandatory push-up, pull-up and deadlift portion of the race?

  15. 1. CUTTERS
    2. BKB
    3. Sigma Phi Epsilon
    4. Jet Blach
    5. Gray Goat

Still think CUTTERS have the edge over BKB. Better coaching and a culture of winning. Hard to bet against Fowler though when he has 2 of the top 5 riders in the field (See: 2011). Interested to see if any frat teams will be able to stay with CUTTERS/BKB. Smart money is on Sig Ep to have the best overall frat team, less a Herculean effort by Joe K keeps SAE in the race.

  16. Why do so many people on this board care about what Courtney Bishop is doing? Honest question he is the only coach that ever gets mentioned by name.

    • Because he consistently gets mediocre teams to the lead lap with much stronger and deeper teams. He’s a great coach. Maybe the best in the race.

    • Nothing shows jealousy more than accusing college kids of cheating at an intramural cycling race with no evidence whatsoever.

      • Unless it’s true, which it is. My roommate in delts knows only two things about their bike team, because they don’t even consider their rushed bikers brothers.

They have an altitude machine, and they use PEDs.

I bet you thought it was silly when they said Lance used PEDs too.

  17. Seems to me like there’s a pretty easy and fairly cheap way to put these allegations to rest…drug test the winners of both races. If it comes up positive for any banned PED or TUE without a preapproved consent from the race director, they won’t win. They test at USAC races…I don’t see why Little 500 should be any different.

    • Drug testing is NOT cheap. You cannot just drug test the winners. It would have to be random selection drug testing or testing everyone

  18. Stupidity on a website does not an allegation make. If they tested 1 they would have to test all, got an extra $30k in the budget, for a non problem generated by liable and gossip, oh webmaster?

  19. Quals! Who’d you got for the crapshoot?

    Women’s Front Row
    1. DG
    2. Theta
    3. AOPi

    Men’s Front Row
    1. BKB
    2. SigEp
    3. Cutters

    • It’s calling for rain on Saturday right now. Cutters drew a 4:50 qual time, if the rain holds off I’m sure we’ll see a great time from them.

      Solid prediction overall!

  20. With the rain out of the forecast and the temps in the 50/60’s the advantage goes to the a.m. attempts:

    Men:
    1. Beta
    2. BKB
    3. Bears

    Women
    1. AOPi
    2. AXO
    3. Theta

  21. Sub 2:20.00 ITTs:
    1. 2:15.78 2005 1st H. Arnesen
    2. 2:17.24 2016 1st J. Krahulik
    3. 2:17.68 2006 1st H. Arnesen
    4. 2:17.86 2005 2nd M. Davis
    5 2:18.25 2009 1st E. Young
    6. 2:18.65 2012 1st RJ Stewart
    7. 2:18.94 2007 1st S. Land
    8. 2:19.24 2007 2nd A. Bishop
    9. 2:19.60 2016 2nd L. Tormoehlen
    10. 2:19.69 2005 3rd C. Luekens
    11. 2:19.70 2005 4th S. Land
    12. 2:19.75 2008 1st I. Neff
    13. 2:19.94 2015 1st N. Thiery

Some years are simply faster than others. Notably 2005 with 4 of the fastest 13 times recorded. 2007 and 2016 were also quick years.

A better comparison is margin of victory.

The best comparison is when the riders race in the same heat.
